Default '03 JDM STI at Hurst Cars Bedford

Evening everyone.

I'm on the look out for a blobeye STI and have arranged a meet with Max at Hurst Cars to view this car :

http://www.hurstcars.co.uk/used-cars...01512039181048

Has anyone been to see this car and has any helpful advice worth pointing out. If they saw it why didn't they buy it etc etc.

It seems to have been in stock since at least September this year, maybe earlier. Is that a long time to have a JDM STI in stock for. If it was a real on it would have sold buy now right...?

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Hi Chris.

Thanks for the reply. I read that post before starting the thread, it's an interesting read. Clearly you've had a bad experience with the garage and I'm in no way sticking up for them, but the more I read about various dealers Hurst included the more mixed views I find. Some say nothing but positive things, others the opposite. It's looks as if Hurst are one of the better ones from what I read.

I welcome peoples opinion on dealers, I'd be a fool not too, but in this instance I'd like opinions on the car specifically if someone has viewed it previously, or by quick first impressions from the ad.

Hopefully I'll do my job properly when inspecting a car to know if there are major issues. I'm no expert and I've never owned an Impreza but I've driven a few lately, got to know what's what (I think) and more to the point I'm VERY FUSSY. Anything that doesn't seem quite right, a noise here, a vibration there, anything that deems a difficult/expensive fix and I'll walk away. The chances are none of them are perfect, their 12 yrs old cars but a good insight from those in the know is a great head start!

You certainly sound to have the right attitude going into look at the car.
Do keep in mind these cars are getting on a bit and will most likely need some
sort of TLC.

Good luck be nice to hear how you get on and another proud owner to the forum.

Oh and Happy New Year to you

I don't think you can read too much into the fact that it's been hanging around since Sept, most car dealers these days seem to be able to ask stupid prices and appear to be under no pressure at all to actually sell cars.

I think the price is the reason its still for sale considering its a none widetrack blob. Check out the for sale section here there have been some GOOD widetrack JDM models for around £9k.

I personally think it should be around £8-£8500 but thats me a tight 4rse

As above. It's about £3k overpriced. Better cars and much better value-for-money cars come up for sale on here or Pistonheads all the time. Be patient and wait for the right car at the right price to come on the market, even if that means a couple of months of searching.

.I have bought from Hurst in the past (about 4 years ago) and was happy with the price I paid then but they do seem to be like the rest of the performance car market price gouging cartel now (Cheshire, Clives, Tom Harvey etc)...
Prepared to put cars on for stupid prices and leave them sat there for many, many months until some gullible mug eventually comes along who is willing to pay it (or more probably, get into debt to own it)

I really don't understand how these businesses finance models work... with a lack of turnover and cash flow whilst waiting for said mugs to meet their asking prices.

What I do find particularly irritating and off putting about Hurst now is that they don't give proper individual descriptions for each car... just a few paragraphs of copy and paste generic info on that particular model.
They've currently got a white jdm bugeye sti in which looks identical to one being sold by another smaller local dealer up north a couple of months back, same mileage same side skirt/bumper extensions... the previous dealer had it up for I think £6,900... Hurst are now asking £9k for it.

Has anyone that has dealt with Hurst Cars in the past been able to 'do a deal' or is Max the kind of guy who will only take the asking price?

Never know until I get there, he may be having a tough time of late or want stock rotation but it's always nice to go with some info behind me!

i'd say Max got the best out of the deal when I bought about 4-5 years ago, but at least back then prices were still reasonable for these type of cars, so I didn't feel like I'd had my pants pulled down.

I wouldn't pay the kind of prices I now see at Cheshire, Tom Harveys, Hurst etc even if I was multi millionaire lottery winner and money was no object... my self respect just wouldn't allow it.

He has knocked off £750 / £1000 of this in the last week or so.

http://www.hurstcars.co.uk/used-cars...01609258105752

So this could be he is looking to move cars on and recoup some much needed moneys.
Always haggle but expect the sales approach.

Keep us posted.

Happy New Year.
Same question here.
For what it's worth, Hurst offered me the best price for a dealer when I was looking to sell my FSTi.

Sold my S202 to Hurst early last year. I have no complaints, but bare in mind they are a dealer and have to make a buck or two so do expect to pay more than a private seller. As you have stated these motors are 10 years+ so you best expect a bang and a vibration!!

If I'm buying from a dealer I don't expect a bang or vibration, I am paying a premium as any problems should be sorted.
Consumer law now very much supports that

The "problem" I think in UK is that by law a car salesman must offer 3 months warranty, unlike in Germany which is 12 months.

It's not as simple now as just offering a warranty and that's it. The consumer has a lot more rights now tHan they used to

It's also not so much about the warranty but the condition of the vehicle when buying from the trade over a private sale

Always worth checking the mileage hasn't been doctored when buying from a trader, especially fresh imports.

Other than checking the auction paperwork against the odometer is there any other way of checking?

If the mileage on the odometer is convert into KM and they stack up against the auction sheet all is well, isn't it?

Not 100% sure it is the mileage at the auction sheet or the last recorded mileage in Japan, either way, if you have the auction papers that's good and gives reassurance.

When you go to view the car I see no reason why you shouldn't ask to see the import paperwork for conformation of millage and the grade of car, this has to follow the car in transportation and would be presented to the importer when they take receipt of the goods.
So if you get told that the paperwork is not available then It is but your not getting to see it.

Grade 6 or S: This should be a brand new car but some auction companies allow ex demos with 2000 km’s on the clocks into this category either way it should be plastic on the seats fresh.

Grade 5: As new condition

Grade 4.5: Very lightly used condition

Grade 4: Used condition with only the lightest of blemishes

Grade 3.5: Good condition with more noticeable blemishes

Grade 3: Average condition marks and possible light damage

Grade 2: Poor condition may have accident damage or corrosion

You can see more on this at the link bellow.

Bimta checks trace back the history of the car from origin, that's why it takes a good few days for the check. Give bimta aquick call and find out.
