Default chuck 1 litre of redline lightweight in gearbox oil

My wrx blobeye gearbox is on 115k and its very gruff especially first second and third when cold and not that brilliant either when warm mainly in second.

changed oil about a year a go using millers TRX i was wondering if i could get away with 2.5 litres of millers and a litre of the redline lightweight shockproof see if it would help?

expensive stuff the redline my mate has a bottle lying around and im not made of money but also don't want to do any damage to the car you guys reccon?

feel free to flame

I had a small crunch from third to fourth on a blob JDM six-speed, and following a tip on a US forum I tried a blend of 50/50 Shockproof and Millers CRX 75w90. Worked a treat.

The best oil for any Scooby box is the Castrol semi synth as sold by RCM,check their website for the spec,it's not a bad price and gives a good gear change

LightWeight is a unique gear oil designed to lubricate racing transmissions and transaxles which see serious loads (not recommended for most syncro-type transmissions)

Millers, Motul, Redline, Castrol are all brands i've seen classed as useable, wether one is "the best" is never going to be proven as no 2 gearboxes, cars, drivers are the same.

Redline lightweight sorted out a crunch between 4th and 5th for me. Was as slick as a baby seal after that.

It wont "sort out" any crunch, it might mask it for a while or prolong further wear.

Once the crunch gets bad it doesnt matter what oil you have in it.... My 6spd crunches like a goodun with redline shock proof in...

I've used pretty much every gear oil over the the years. Mat Clark advised I tried the Castrol as he said it gave the best gear change when I was down at RCM even though it's only a semi synth. I tried it and he's right. I hope you now feel enlightened enough to step down from your condescending high horse.

Prolongs further wear and provides enough lubrication to resolve a crunching sound.

Yes it doesn't repair the box, but it prevents it getting any worse.

Ahhhh I see, so it is in fact your opinion and not a fact?
The way your original post was written suggests it was a stone cold fact.

I'm gonna stay on this high horse a little longer I think

Not sure what your problem is Joe, but I have given some good advice about a product recommended to me by RCM that worked very well for me. You have recommended nothing. I think RCM know more than both of us, of course all opinions and recommendations are subjective, but the OP is after a better gear change and that is what RCM recommend this oil for and they see far more Scoobys than most.
I suggest we leave this here before this thread goes seriously off topic.

just a update lads i used 2 litres of lightweight shockproof and topped it up with some millers oil.

my gearbox is now a lot smoother than before 1st and 3rd gear feel really smooth like new but 2nd gear is still a little bit knotchy but better then before.

maybe next year i will use just use shockproof and not top it up, but it has made a significant improvement.
