Default The dark side!!!

My mate turned up at mine today in a silver evo 8 he just took yesterday in part-x for a merc he had for sale (he's a car dealer) he said the car is running 450-500 bhp fully forged, FMIC, Uprated turbo etc and I must say what a weapon, it felt planted and seemed more nimble than my Scooby and seemed to keep pulling and pulling I was really impressed with it, one thing I did miss was the rumble of the Scooby but was really impressed all round, it's the first time I have been in a modified Evo but wasn't disappointed so may/may not be a change of motor!!!!

No doubt a great car. But 450/500bhp is alot of power, no doubt a 450/500bhp subaru with the correct package would also be a weapon.
My old escort cosworth with 500/550bhp with nos was a weapon aswell, but tbh the package wasnt great; diffs gearbox would explode at any time unless seriously uprated

I'm an advocate for Subarus, I love them..and have had a few. But the sad truth is that Evos are just the better more capable car. I think they lack the same driver feel that a Subaru has.... but point to point - an Evo with the same money invested into it as a Subaru, would win hands down.

Win what point to point? The family & kids dash across town? The Sunday drive to the inlaws? The evening drive on your own?

It *may* win against the stop watch around a race track suited to the Evo, but who cares about that in the real world?

The only thing the Evo wins at in the real world is top trumps for school boys, spotting cars on their way to school. Mind you, that's only if they actually prefer the Evo.

I've had multiples of both, even both at the same time. I've been looked down the nose at by an Evo driver in my Impreza, then a few days later I laughed as he enthusiastically waved while I was in my lovely Evo 6.

My point is, there is no 'better' car. It's just what you prefer as an individual and stuff what people who've never driven them think is 'best' Some say the Evo is better because it doesn't under steer, but to me they feel way too light on the controls and I prefer the heavier controls of the Impreza. I also prefer the power delivery of the Impreza as even early evos are twin scroll and feel very linear in comparison. 320 in an Evo 6 and 320 in a V6 Sti, the Impreza is way more fun.. IMO

I sort of agree with this. Im subaru to the core. Ive never owned an evo but freinds have and i like them but each to there own id always go for a subaru. I know people that have owned a subaru then gone evo and soon sold and brought another impreza. Both great cars and down to personal taste

I just like quick Jap cars and it just happens to be that the first quick jap car I went in was a Subaru and I fell in love from there but who to know's if it was an Evo I first went in I may well be driving one now and not a Subaru.

I've been in many quick Jap cars, Gtr, Supra twin turbo, Evo's etc all fantastic cars but there's something else about Scooby's. Never enjoyed any of them as much as my STI Type RA.

I agree with you mate, it just depends what you want from a car. As I said in my post, I much prefer the way a Subaru drives and the way the power is delivered as well as the cornerning fun. But I do unfortunately think that the Evo is the better more capable car for fast road or track work. Daily doesn't really come into that statement. They're both relatively comfy, and both have 4 doors and a boot and can both pootle to and from the shops.

I'm just saying that the Mitsi is clearly more over engineered than a Subaru and its much easier to extract the potential from an Evo (in terms of modifying and cost involved) than it is from a Subaru. I too have owned both cars.
Especially considering the OP is talking about modified Evo's I thought that point is quite relevant.

I just don't like EVO's, they've never been a car I look at and want to own, I'm the same with most BMW's there's only a few really old iconic ones that I like, like the 2002 and 635csi.

Which one is "Best" is always going to be really subjective, for me part of it is even about how a car makes me feel when I look back at it or when it's just sat on the drive doing nothing or when another one passes me in the street, I just don't get any feelings when I see an EVO, may as well be a Ford Mondeo to me because I get no feelings about those either, I have to like something about a car to own it, they're a bit like women to me, a woman can be as hot as hell in the looks department but if she's got no personality it doesn't take very long to get bored of banging her.

Ive never owned an Evo and have no intention to. I have driven a 8 MR FQ340 though and, although a nice car, it just didn't have the 'character' of the Impreza. As already mentioned by other members, yes, I've no doubt it's the more 'capable' car, but to me, it just felt like a fast car, an engine with 4 wheels and some seats, it was a bit 'lifeless' if you know what I mean. I didn't leave the car and then want to get back in it half hour later like I do with my Impreza, I also didn't look back at it whilst I walked away......like I do with my Impreza.
