Default Silicone Turbo Intake Hose

Are the ebay ones really that bad?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2c9ae43a79

I noticed that my standard hose is looking rather old and in need of replacement.
Do I really need to spend £200 on a samco one?

I am only running a standard TD04 and have no intension of changing this.

Unless you're planning to remove the inlet manifold these things are such a faff to fit you wouldn't want to find your Ebay Special wasn't up to the task after all your effort.

There was a silicone pipe on my car when I bought it (classic gf8 turbo). When you reached about 4.5k rpm it was like hitting a limiter. Basically the pipe was collapsing under the pressure of boost/suction at the end where it forms a 90 degree bend. It was replaced for a genuine subaru hard plastic pipe and problem solved. Also the manifold gaskets should be changed when the manifold is off. Hope this helps.

I have an eBay silicon one, £39 from china, good quality 5 ply silicon, as hard as a hoors heart too, no way would it collapse.

That's what I wanted to hear really.

Many advertise 4 or 5 ply so I can't see them collapsing.

Will do some more digging.

Is it is a worth wile upgrade over standard?

Will flow more due to smoothe bore, my std one tore around the thin rubber at the turbo inlet, silicon one is as tough as old boots in comparison.
The only thing you have to do with it is cut a couple inches off each end with a sharp Stanley, obviously when they are made they are left long.
I really don't see the problem

it won't flow any more than the std item, unless it's twice the diameter!

I think you may have your wires crossed here, it will flow more air as there is no perforations inside to cause turbulence. Unless I'm
Missing something here?
What science did you do at school? Physics, chemistry, biology or general?

It's the size of the pipe bore that determines the flow rate not how smooth it is inside, very basic physics.......

One of the guys in my club bought an ebay special, didnt last a few weeks before falling apart.

I'd chose a new/decent OE item over a cheapo any day.

Then why does a 20g surge with a silicon inlet but not with an oem one?

same here - ebay 5 ply special and it's held 24psi on my 16g with no signs of collapsing or deformation. I was quite surprised I thought for sure when I turned the boost up it would suck itself inside out!

Not as big of a pain to fit either, saw the old one out with a junior hacksaw blade and then you can squish the silicone one to make it fit

also with mine I did notice better airflow results - it didnt' appear that my old one was leaking in any way but spool was improved all the same. From what i had read the smoother internals reduce turbulance and so increase the amount of air you can flow even though the pipe diameter is the same.

Interesting, do you have any photos so we know what to specifically avoid?

If you should decide I may well just have a samco turbo inlet hose and billet joiner lying around somewhere !!
