Sound proofing also known as. You could remove it I guess, when sat cooling, stacks of heat flies out the bonnet scoop anyway.

I suppose you could say it diffuses heat to an extent, but it's not like you'll be subjecting the bonnet to paint blistering / panel warping temps.

Believe it or not its supposed to be a fire suppressant if there's an engine bay fire it melts the tabs and falls down on top of engine and is supposed to help extinguish it. Load of tripe pull it off.

Just get rid of it and clean the inside of the bonnet up so it's shiny when you open it

It will do nothing in the event of a fire. By the time the fire has caused the fittings to melt your car will be nicely ablaze. Also it only partially covers the engine and if it fell onto a burning engine it would just sit on top of everything with plenty of room for oxygen to circulate and feed the fire. It's not exactly going to grow larger and then somehow wrap itself in and out and up and down around all the components and somehow seal it all... Useless. Bin it.

I'd also be very wary of NOT having one, knowing what I know about Scoob paint, I'd expect it to fade/change colour if it got too hot

Presuming you car is a classic?? This company were selling genuine ones on eBay over the past couple of weeks for 50 odd quid if I remember rightly. None on there at present so maybe the listing has ended and will be relisted over the next few days like all their items. Here's the link below.
