Default 4 door to 2 door, 22B kit

Hello,

I`m in a middle of conversion, going from a 4door to a 22b kit with the rears being welded up.

Any info regarding the legality of this please?

1: DVLA and Police? what is to do, what is to declare, how badly is looked at it?

2: of course insurance, what mod it is? Full Body kit ? Wide Arches? Kit keeps the existing bumpers, so it could be treated as Wide Arches? On insurance there is no "2 door conversion" kit .

3: how badly affects insurance this kit?

Kind Regards,

I've seen a few and they normally look odd. The doors are smaller than a type r so the car looks out of proportion.

Agreed. And for the money it costs, you may as well buy a type r.

so much of topic. i feel like i`m on the honda forum.

why? because I had to repair rusty arches and managed to get my hand on a cheap kit too.

doesn't look odd because it's not stupidly wide, around 5 cm on each side.

Called insurance today to talk about it, even they didn't know what mod this classifies as.

Do they do silly things like this on the Honda forum too?

In short, they look odd.

The width isnt the issue or even making a wide body, its the two door conversion. The doors are to short, the rear quarter too long. For the cost and time and effort, you aren't achieving anything really, other than an odd looking Impreza. If you want an odd looking car, then I guess thats fine.

Subaru made one of their best cars as a two door, a Type R and a 22b. Making a frankenstein model is a bit daft when you can buy a real one.

I would class this modification as 'insanity'. Ill let your insurance know I have named it.

But he is going to 'wreak' his car (as you say), so steering someone in a better direction is all about the community.

Seen this done a few times now, mainly on newage and have to say I agree with Trinity.

They end up looking like a cut and shut because 4 door doors are so small and the proportions dont look right at all.

Coupled with the fact that it then renders the rear seat AND access to it totally useless, AND the cost of having it done just seems like an utter waste of money.

Want a 2 door
Buy a 2 door
The end.

It's just making straight unmolested cars even more desirable. Let him crack on and allow us "vanilla" types to make a few quid.

if you all have your "vanilla" front mount intercooler installed i have nothing else to add. I noticed nowadays people open a thread asking a question, and they are either being bombed by people selling them "upgrade" stuff, either being bombed by off topic related mouth wash.

it's all about the finish quality of the work:2 door, 4 door, whatever, do it right and it's fine.

bodge it up and I agree you made an *** of your car.

in the same way some of the members put front mount intercoolers and rally decals, and 18-19" wheels, list could go on forever. but that's none of my business.

all i asked was what's the legal bits regarding my issue, very hard question i see.

Nope, no front mount and no stickers but i did own a proper 2 door Type R.

You are missinng the point. Subaru already made a two door classic. I can understand why Revolution made a two door newage, because it doesent exist and yes the standard of finish os equally important but you are making a true frankenstein creation which will look odd and render half your car useless.

If you are happy with that then no nones opinion matters really.

Please post some photos up when you are done!

I saw the yellow abw car the first thing I noticed was the 2 pot brakes up front, also you can see the top of the door on the window seal rubber, Ive got major rust issue on mine on 1 rear quarter, Il probably end up getting it repaired as standard when I get round to it,

OP

To answer your question
A. Ask your insurance provider (or Gary Moulson of Keith Michaels)
B. Ask ABW what their customers / they do, the question must have come up before
C. Consult DVLA
D. Crack on

It's a two door widebody conversion.

Actually the above pic doesn't look too bad. If I had the urge to do this (and I don't BTW ) I would not weld the doors, remove the handles and fit door poppers, at least you'll havethe look your after and keep the practicality

we`ll see how it turns up.

DVLA is easy to deal with, all they need is a letter and a few pictures to document and prove the work done, and way it's been done.

By the way @ossett2k2 while i was digging for this subject, I also found out that the car in the picture is still an MOT Failure 100%. Reason being that if you have 4 doors, then you must be able to open them all from outside.

Hence to be legal if you do the 4 door kit, you still need to have a way to open the rear doors from the outside. It all has to do with accidents and removing rear passengers.

I think you need to worry less about the law and DVLA and more about the Scoobynet taste police as that could land you in all sorts of trouble
