Question Bugeye blowing sensors :(

My mates bugeye has been playing up for some time now so this weekend we tried to sort it.

Its a totally standard wrx and was spluttering under load and would seriously hold back on throttle.

Pulled a code off it saying something like bank 1 lean so tried a replacement lambda, no change so asked around and a few people gave some pointers.

Today we replaced the coilpacks and it spluttered up to 4k but then drove and boosted fine with no eml light on. We then replaced the maf and bingo, drove like a champ so we thought that was it.

20 miles later, eml light comes on and now says camshaft sensor.

Is it common for these to blow random sensors or is there something we should look at thats not electrical that could be causing it to throw up random faults?

So far he's not spent much fixing it but is getting worried its the ecu or something more serious.

Anyone else had this?

Induction air leak?
Have you had any of the intake, TMIC or turbo hoses off recently?

if you have started using higher revs then it may not be connected, the Bugs had a shielding issue and can give fake Cam sensor issues.

We checked for air leaks, nothings been removed on the induction system, everything is secure etc.

JDM Stig, he has started giving it a little more now that it was running better so do you think if we clear the code it will sort it? does seem odd its just appeared now that we've fixed the running issues/misfire

How many miles has it done?, if it's north of 80-90k then expect things to start failing as they have a finite life & sometimes when you replace old parts with new makes other worn parts work harder & cause them to fail.

I recently had to replace the cas on my bugeye, when it got past 100k it started to light the cel randomly, I would clear it & it would come back on at randome intervals as it started to fail.

its a 2001 with close to 120k so I expect you're right and that its just down to age.

Thanks everyone, hes getting it mapped in a couple of weeks so hopefully they will delete the code, as per the other thread. Its also due a cambelt change so this may help too.
