Default coilover choice

What coilovers would you choose for road use if you had up to £1000 to spend, supply and fit in the price

ExE TC fast road coilovers. Amazing! You will struggle for £1000 tho. Same as the bilsteins that banny has recommended, they'll also be over £1000.

Buy once and forget, ask yourself if You need them to be adjustable soft/hard.
Its important part on Your car why buy it used?

Above coils will cost You 1.5-2k fitted with geo(would touch bilstein, exe-tc and kw v3)plus You wish to have alk, roll centre kit and drop links (rear are crap).
don't do it without roll centre kit,its massive difference with it.

Is there something wrong with your suspension or is it just for looks, as I noticed your other thread for springs.

You don't need a roll centre correction kit unless you lower the car more than 1.5-2cm.
I've only lowered mine about 0.5cm or so.
That's what you need (don't confuse them with Bilsteins sold off the shelf though, the ones below are custom valved and the damping/ride quality was fantastic):
https://www.scoobynet.com/suspension...-jamsport.html
Also, as has been said why do you need coilovers?

I don't really need coilovers I was offered the teins by a friend so I have been thinking about it. Are they good? (The type flex tiens). My car has coilovers on at the main but the rears are noisey and do my head in so I want to change them. I've looked at kyb ultra sr shocks and tein s tech springs but with fitting and set up they work out not much cheaper than the coilovers I've been offered. They are pretty much new, only done 1500 miles on them. He,s throwing in a set of camber adjust bolts too.. I don't know what to do for best lol

Why is he selling the Teins?
I don't have any experience of the type flex so can't comment.
I've been in 2 cars with Teins, one was OK (monoflex I think?) the other too stiff, "dry" over pot holes for my liking.
I'd get 4 new shocks and OEM springs if I were you.

He bought them for his track car but wasn't happy with the set up so he took them off, he has a 600bhp bugeye spec c for circuit use.

If they are fitted to the car go and have a passenger ride to see if they suit you.
Suspension can be very subjective (if one doesn't have a good benchmark to compare it against).

They are off the car now but I'm pretty sure they would be set up for my road car completely different than his track one so I wouldn't get a good feel for them

KYB's are more of an OEM feel, twins can be quite stiff depending on the spec, I will have a set of mint EXE-TC's back in the next few weeks just waiting on a part as they have been refurbed, I bought them and didn't even get chance to fit them as changed cars.

Get the EXE-TC that Ninja is selling. If I had a Subaru that needed suspension and they fitted I would buy them.

Hate Tein coilovers, have always found them quite hard, in fact any Japanese coilover I would stay away from as they will always be too hard for our UK roads.

Ive always been impressed with my Eibach pro street coilovers(share the same design as the KW V1 coilovers) I've owned them on my blob and hawk, they are basic in the sense that they slightly stiffen the suspension(not enough to give you back ache) and you can adjust them in height, but they also wont cost you loads either.

You really need to get changing over to coilovers right as this is the only mod that I know that can really ruin your car, especially when your paying nearly £1000 and then end up hate driving your car due to being uncomfortable and hard!!

I know the guy I'm buying them off won't get it wrong when fitting them he knows his stuff so I can trust him to set them up just right for my car, full geo and adjustable camber bolts too

The spring rate and valving and how the combo works together is what determines how they will work on real roads, not so much the person fitting them.
Most so called Subaru specialists will tell people to lower and stiffen the car to make it handle better, unfortunately this only works on smooth race tracks and not real bumpy roads on which I assume you are going to drive your car mostly.

Having tried a few coilovers personally (either in my own car or as a passenger) I wouldn't buy anything unless I tested it myself (which is what I did with my custom made Bilsteins, tried them on a friend's car first).

One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Well I don't have the opportunity to try before I buy so I'm just going to have to dive in at the deep end, he knows what I'm like and I know he wouldn't put them on my car if he didn't think ide be happy. He will go for the ride height and stiffness that I ask him to which will be slightly lower than standard but nothing major

Regarding the tien flex, they are actually the better ones in the tien range, they have a better damping over potholes etc compared to say super streets, but again depends on what spring rate he's got on and if they'd be suitable for you or not.
They do corrode overtime say a couple of years and when they start leaking it's best to replace as rebuild is quite expensive.
Hth.

Good luck with them in that case and as busta said budget for rebuilds every 25k miles or so.
If you lower the car anything more than 1.5-2cm you WILL need a roll centre correction kit.

Sorry to jump in on this, but what suspension set up would you run if you are looking for lots of compliance over rough surfaces? Talking about bumpy b roads and lanes?
I have standard sti newage setup that could do with a bit of refreshing. I would prefer soft springs with good damping tbh.

I've just picked my car from having HSD Dueltechs along with a Whitline ALK and Rollcentre kit, from the short 20mile ride home(M62) I seems like a nice ride not too hard either. I need to take it on a sprited run

I found the OEM setup in my FSTi to be the second best after the custom made Bilsteins so depending on the price of OEM shocks I'd stick to them.

Kyrlagkitsis "secret" is to use a little more bound and not so much rebound as you want the wheel to follow the road and not stay on the air on bumpy roads.

What this achieved is that the extra bound also played the role of the spring and prevented the car from diving under heavy braking.

The best suspension I've been in that was even more comfortable than my custom made Bilsteins was a S204's one but I imagine the cost would be prohibitive.

Send an e-mail to Jamsport/Kyrlagkitsis otherwise.

P.S. Can a moderator move this under the suspension section?

Mike get it back up the lakes in your old stomping ground that will give them a good run out
