Default bigger wheels?

hello peoples i want to put bigger wheels on the impreza but have no understanding on the difference it could make like messing with the speedo or gearing the car up i have the standard facelift classic 16 inch but want 17 or 18 is it possible to just get a bigger wheel with less rubber to keep the dimensions the same as the old ones?

This might help you for width and diameter calculations for wheel upgrades

I have 17's on my classic WRX and they had 215/40/17 on them. Which knocked the speedo out slightly (going slower than speedo said). So I changed all the tyres too 215/45/17 and the speedo seems to be spot on now

You can go for 18s but imo they give a harsh and crashy ride due to the tyre profile

A 45 profile on 17" wheels gives a nicer ride whilst still maintaining drivability

If I was to get another classic i wouldn't think twice about getting another set of 18's running 215/35/18's.
Had 17's with 215/40/17 put preferred the firmer ride of the 18's and deffo the looks!

I had a classic wagon with these size wheels and tyres and was also on coil overs and tbh the ride wasn't as bad as what some thought. OK changing the tyres was a bit of a pain for the garages as the wall was so narrow but tbh I wouldn't not think about going up in size again

18s if you value looks over handling. (Although personally I think 18s look ridiculous on a GC8.)

If you are at all interested in performance, go for 17s.

Each to their own but some of us prefer the handling on the 18s and indeed the looks!
Absolutely nothing wrong with the performance of 18s!
