Default Getting small electric shocks.

I'm getting regular small electric shocks when I touch the car after driving for a little while. This only happens on the body work.

I guess a live wire is hitting the body work somewhere, but how on earth (pun intended) find out where?

It could just be a natural build up of static from your footwear against the quality plastic fibre carpets.

Mine does the same in the hot weather month.
Get in the habit of putting one hand on the roof before you get out

Not that sort of earthing

It's due to wearing man-made fibres, rubbing your feet on man-made carpets, sitting on man-made seats etc. The car is on rubber (an insulator) tyres. Plus in dry weather, the car makes static as it moves rubbing through the air.

You can fit one of those earthing strips that dangles down onto the road, usually made of conductive rubber, but I'm not sure how effective they are, especially off a plastic bumper.

Or start wearing only natural fibres.

PS: the shocks are harmless.

I remember seeing so many cars with those degaussing strips on their cars in the late 80s and early 90s, even then I failed to see the point.

Someone must have made a killing from them.

I get it off my Subaru, my van and my Mrs car, I can't seem to win
I jumped out of my van the other week and I grabbed the padlock to open the garage door and had a nice little kick off it.

The original idea of the rubber earthing strips, believe it or not, was that the static charge was one of the causes of motion sickness........
