Default Best Ever?

I keep reading on the forum that the S202 is considered the holly grail by some members. But what about the S203 & S204? Are they not as good or even better? Surely later technology would improve on the S202?

Sorry if it's been done before, but not been on here for a while.

A Subaru without DCCD can never be classed as the best ever IMO so I'm afraid that rules out the S202.....The best? maybe the RA-R

thing is i doubt many have driven one let alone all three so they will have nothing to base comparisons on.

In terms of spec though the later special editions had better hardware. Although sometimes less is more. I'll still say the classic type r is a more intimate and involving drive than the newages.

never driven any of the three s cars mentioned, although i have seen all three in the flesh.

based purely on the looks and feel i had about the cars close up the s202 was my favourite.

the s203 did nothing for me and just reminded me of a wrx, the s204 was nice but nothing special other than the amazing seats.

obviously i know the components they are built with would probably make them a great drive.

I've just found out what R AR stands for. Rare as rocking horse ****.

What are the chances of finding an S202 for sale in the UK?

Pretty good, be prepared to pay anything between £10-15k though, Hawk Spec-C is the best

This.

It's also part of the reason some like the S202 because it has the stability of the new age and the raw feel of a Classic, apparently.

Type R with a VF34 (same turbo as S202) is cracking fun with around 330bhp.

I always said I'd love a car that steered like my Clio Cup and went like an Impreza. I've got an S202 and it's the closest thing to it. It's not as quick as my Cosworth, and not as dynamically brilliant as a Spec C hatch but it's more fun to drive than either.

I disagree, with respect, with the comment above about dccd. It's not important for the majority of the time. Not for me anyway, when I'm belting down a country lane listening to the Bee Gees.

The beauty of the S202 is that it's a raw car like the classics that went before it, but has the planted feel and dynamic ability of a car of the early 21st century.

It's got a fantastic sounding engine and a fast spooling turbo, and loves to be revved. Even the OEM map had audibly loud pops and bangs to put a smile on your face.

The steering is sharp and beautifully weighted - it is much better than any UK newage car I've driven, and vastly superior to that of the hawk and hatch.

The S202 has quite a tail happy setup and being as light as it is, has a really zippy feel to it that some of the later and latest cars just don't have.

People can bang on about twinscroll engines, dccd and widetracks but for me the S202 is the ultimate incarnation of the Impreza. It's loaded with character, it's a proper driver's car and easily the one that has made me smile most.

Strange that sold in Japan a while back, was a grade 3.5 but it had 108km on the clock...must be a typo...or a different car?

Sounds like you need to try a Type R.

lol

I've driven a P1, a heavily tuned WRX import and a 22B. Thought both the special editions were great and the WRX was mental but it's difficult for me to compare as it's been years apart between being in them.

It would be easy to tell if it was the same car if pics were available. If it is I'm sure there's a logical explanation as to why its had miles shaved from it..

I quite like the edgeyness of the standard set up sloppy and un ruley on 16's and standard brakes with 330bhp, just a rear roll bar, drop links and ALK was quite fun.

I agree with Mr Subaru V3 Type R FTW.

It was never said by Mr Subaru that the V3 Type R was the best model ever made...........Its a scoobynet myth, just like the mythological Type R RA special edition 2 door..

I think the reference was to the STI V3 saloon, and the Type R RA does exist albeit in WRX form.

The car in question Maz is a WRX Type R V-limited and has a "7" in the model code denoting an RA but it isn't an RA, its a Type R.

The only site that it comes up as being a 2 door special edition RA is that Catherine'n'Ken site, the site all those facebook groups live by.

There is no mention of it here... http://www.sti.jp/product/impreza/list.html

A few years ago a guy on the RA Forum living in Japan investigated the car via sources at Subaru....It was confirmed there is no such car.

Nope I personally read it in some article about 9/10yrs ago when I was doing my research on which one to buy, and I'm probably the one that started your "myth" by repeating it on here.

Don't ask me where it's from or to produce it as I'm really not that ****.

Jay is correct no such car and ditch what the subaru guy said was in terms of development the sti v3 was his favourite due to how it moved the game on from the earlier cars, not that it was the best model made in the classics

I'm just talking about him saying the V3 Type R being the best, but to be fair it's very subjective as I doubt there's much in it between any of the classics with dccd.
