Hydrodipping / Hydrographics
Been watching peoples creations on here and on the internet for the last couple of years.
An good friend of mine tells me about a year ago he's going to go into business doing Hydrodipping as he's been doing some work practising and buying relevant parts in his spare time.
I try telling him "Everyone's starting to do this mate". He then shows me pictures of his VW camper van wheels he's done in wood and i have to think, he has a talent!
He's been sending me copies of his work for nearly a year now and i've been nothing but impressed, from bonnets to helmets, snowboards to motorcycle petrol tanks.
I thought, to help him along his way i'd send him some knackered Subaru bits i had lying around.
He asked me what i wanted them in. I told him, most people are going to want carbon fibre or at least a carbon fibre pattern. For a minute i think he's going to punch me and shows his disgust in the pattern. He explains that "Dipping" is not as easy as everyone thinks. Most of the patterns he uses take real skill to get right all around the article, not just the main surface area.
So.... He's just text me with some photos of what he's done!
This is a bit of a promo post (Not advertising admin, promise) but i'm also looking for opinions on the work carried out.

They were my exact comments. Told him I wanted it under the bonnet though.
He's told me he can do under bonnet parts as well, he just needs to know so he can apply the appropiate lacquer

I used to do lots of hydrodipping and spraypainting peoples centre consoles
and spent 2 years constantly practicing,
your friend has got the the pattern correct as the carbon fiber pattern is straight which is good but judging by the clear coat on the items above he
needs to practice clear coating now and getting a nice smooth and very shiney and glossy finish on the items
for instance here is a couple of the items I done for people in custom spray painting and hydrodipping carbon effect for you to see the finish people will expect from their sprayed or dipped items
here is my old civic type r that I carbon dipped for myself
as you can see the shine is fantastic the
metal heater controls are even reflected in the clear coat
your friend is on the right path but just needs to get the clear coat finish perfect now

Much appreciated!!!!
The parts i gave him were rough as....
I'll speak to him in the next couple of days and upload some more pics. He has a Facebook page under hydroheadz Hydrographic's specialists where you'll see some more of his work. I've got some other pics but they're not subaru related. I think the original pics i posted might have some light issues as these look great

I had both 7x7 ft sheds built in my garden
one converted for hydro dipping and the other for spraypainting
Then I took a job away from offshore in the north sea
and in the oil fields of saudi arabia where I was working 6 weeks on and two weeks off for the last year
which is why I have not been on here a lot and why I have not done anymore
spraying or dipping as I have not had the time nowadays
plus where my hydrodipping shed was there is a manhole underneath
and we had a problem with our drains and that one shed had to be demolished and throw away
so unfortunately not doing it anymore
I might from time to time spray a item for my car but other than that
dont really have the time bud

I've sent him the thread and he's really happy with the amount of reviews and responses.
I'm going to put a group buy for everyone which he's trying to price up at the moment.
It will be dash parts for all models and engine bay parts. Just trying to work out how many bits for each model and a reasonable price.
