Default I hate being the new guy...

But, I am. I didn't see a new members area, so if this is in the wrong area, I apologize. I'm looking at buying a 2002 WRX sedan or wagon (saloon?, sorry, USA here) and it is already modded. The guy lists a 20g turbo, APS blow-off valve, COBB exhaust, and a Torque Solutions short throw shifter. I know what most of it is, I am unclear on how much of an upgrade the 20g turbo is over stock (if it's even an upgrade). I haven't gone to look at it yet because I have been trying to research if it is worth the time. Normally, when I am shopping for a car, I try and find unmolested examples, but it's difficult to do on the bug eyes here. I'm not asking to be spoonfed the info, just a kick in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Apparently, I don't type as clearly as I think, the car in question with the mods is a sedan but I am in the market for either.

Welcome BigHuck ! Unfortunately I don't have the answers but you've come to the right place ... I'm sure somebody will be along with the answers at some point. Scoobynetters have a wealth of invaluable knowledge.

Not trying to push you away buddy but would you not be better
asking on the nasioc forum, someone there may know the car
you are looking at?

By the way, welcome.

TDo5 20g are good for around 380-400bhp ( at flywheel ) , i could be wrong here but iam sure the bug wrx uses a TD04 which is around 220 standard and 280 ish after mapping.
Gearbox maybe pushing the limits on the 20g and of course it would need to have been mapped

As already said you would be better off joining NASIOC, as its a bit closer to home, quite a good forum too.

First question is to ask who mapped it for the larger turbo?

It's quite a bit bigger than the standard one, so MUST have been mapped to be safe.

Next, find out if the dump valve is VTA or recirculating.
Subaru engines prefer the recirculating type.

Thanks for the quick replies, I have sent the seller an email asking about a tune. I know that nasioc is "closer", lol I just didn't realize that this site was overseas. I had a Mazdaspeed 3 so, if the subbies are similar, I understand the VTA vs recirc argument lol. I was mostly curious about the turbo size but after posting this, I did find some more info about it. It is significantly bigger than the stocker. I appreciate the info guys, I'll try and keep you updated with any new info I get.

20g is quite a bit bigger indeed - bigger than a standard STI turbo. You can get it in a TD05/20G and a TD06/20G so might be worth checking what it is specifically. It's ability to destroy your gearbox will depend on how well it's been mapped though and power output will depend on what kind of fuel has been put in it.

Mine is a forged 2.5, with an HSTD0520g.
It produces 400/400 or so.....which I was advised is too much torque for my standard gearbox, so i went 6-speed.
Best mod I ever made.
