Cool What an intro to scooby owernship!

First post so here goes

Recently bought an x reg P1 with a 2007 STI engine sitting around 430bhp and 2 weeks into owernship i needed to have the subframe replaced, this was thankfully covered by the garage and i though that would be it. a month later it decided to eat an MD321T and now an ECU repair is needed before the map can be tweaked! my pockets are getting rapidly emptied by this car but..all this aside its an awesome car to drive and I'm addicted now. ill get some pictures up soon in the right section and look forward to learning as much as i can from you guys!

Hey mate, welcome to the forums

It seems very strange for the turbo to go like that out of nowhere, there must have been a reason for it.
What happened with the ECU, that it needs to be repaired and what are you running? Ecutek or the aftermarket one?

I see you're in Plymouth? You have Allan Jeffery (enginetuner) there, maybe it would be worth to let them check everything for you?

Hopefuly you will sort it soon and begin to enjoy the P1. Its a very special car!

heya, cheers buddy. the guys who are sorting it for me seem to think it was perhaps just wear and tear which is uncommon with that turbo but not unheard of. its been fully rebuilt by lateral now so should go on for a while. the car has anti lag fitted so i recon it was beasted a bit before i got it which might have led to the cause but I'm just speculating.

ECU is a simtec thats needs some sort of repair before it can have a map uploaded. I'm not to sure on the details but its running fine now but just won't idle, its going back to the guys at subaru4you in the new year, who so far have been awesome!

I've been able to use it a bit and it puts a proper smile on your face.

fair one, if the car had blown down there i may have ended up finding them but it blew while i was at a mates near newbury and seeing as i come from there and spend a lot of time there thats where it ended up, tbh I've not regretted it, they've been real good so far. but thanks for the heads up, if i wasn't moving id have given them a look in.

I've heard nothing but good things about Len from Subaru4You, so it's a good choice as well.
I would be careful about "uploading" the map though. After changing/rebuilding your turbo, the map may have to be tweaked again.

While having your Simtek "repaired" maybe it would be a good idea to upgrade it to Alcatek?
Or maybe by "repairing it" they actually mean upgrading it.. as
Alcatek is much superior than the old Simtek and adds the Closed Loop Idle Speed Control

cheers buddy, will do, its got a P1WOC sticker on it so hopefully someone here or there knows the car and can maybe give me some more info on it.

codders: a friend of mine has had them work on his various scoobys and had only good things to say. he did say something about it being upgraded but I'm not to sure. it was mapped by bob rawl and luckily he's back there in jan so he's gonna alter the map where needed and upload it. i did have money aside to put my own touches on to the build but unfortunately I'm on a budget now thanks to the turbo going so it'll have to be just a fix now:-(

Don't worry about this spend as there will be bigger ones ahead once you are bored of that power

Maybe you're right stevebt, but 430bhp in P1 is a LOT. I think for a road car there isn't really need for more than that IMO

You can never have too much power, mine is a fully trimmed road car running 2.3bar and about 670bhp and I would still have more if it wasn't for the power keep killing things as it is now

I looked at this car earlier this month and the ecu has an idle control fault which is hardware related not firmware related, a failed electronic component. So its been sent back by Len for that repair plus firmware upgrade. then I will set up the new firmware and we will refresh the map to match the new turbo.
Mild als is no problem for a garret based turbo if its used as it should be

cheers

bob

great to hear from you bob, i was chuffed to hear you would be sorting the remap as when i bought the car i believe it already had one of your maps. also thanks for explaining the prob, i wasn't to sure what it was as I've not spoken to len properly since the car was collected by a friend. one thing I'm still unsure about it the purpose of the twin map?

power wise id really like to see the car hit 500 but well see how that goes!

Two, live-switchable maps would allow you to run lower level of boost for road and higher one for racing/track etc.

They also come handy when you want to use standard/pump petrol on 1 map and racing fuel/meth mix on another.

Do you know the spec of the engine? is it a forged build?

Cheers dude, guess I'll keep it on max chat then, lol. Not fully, in it's current state it's reached max bhp really, any more and I'd be pushing my luck. Here's a list from the guy who build the block.

STI 2.5 short engine with Manley pistons
STI 5 Ported heads
740 injectors
Billet Fuel rails
Parallel fuel lines
spaced inlet manifold
Fuel pressure regulator
RCM 340 Fuel pump
GT spec headers
Harvey Smith trick up pipe
MD 321T Turbo
ACT lightened flywheel
Uprated clutch (exedy Pink)
Hybrid FMIC
6 Speed gearbox
Forge VTA dump valve
RCM supplied air filter
Simtek ECU with switchable boost

Good spec there you'll be hard to get the T upto 500 on v power alone

Meth mix will be needed I think

Nice spec . Any idea of how much torque it's producing?

If you want more power I would suggest upgrading the conrods, Headgaskets adding ARP bolts and maybe 11mm headstuds?
The most important being the rods and the HG as the OE parts are quite weak and tend to fail even at low power levels.

Good luck with it and post some pics if you can, would be nice to see how it looks

Regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

thanks buddy, in the new year I'm looking into having the block fully forged, rods, bearings etc. but its all dependant on funds atm. pic wise ill get some up soon!

I'm told its producing around 430ftlbs torque but at the end of the month, when the mapping is done, ill have a good indication as to how accurate that is.

Agree. Uprated turbo required there for 500. 321T will max out at 450ish on VPower.

Just to add my bit - I'm the one who collected it from S4U since Spec321 was busy with work. I've been out of the scooby world for over a year, so it was nice to get back in one even if temporarily. I was very pleasantly surprised how nicely the car went, even though it is currently accompanied by some nice clonks from a failed ARB bush and isn't yet sorted by Bob R.

The other thing that was immediately noticeable was that I could see where I was going, the A pillars don't block most of the view like recent cars...

Oh yea, that's another thing I should have added. The bushes for the rear arb were rotten through...again the guys I got it from are going to cover the cost of these.
