Default What sort of power can I expect?

Sorry if this gets asked all the time, but found a local mapper who uses ESL (based in Jersey) and looking at getting a board installed to replace the old Dastek Unichip that is already there.

What sort of power levels can I expect? The car is a 1994 WRX and already has a full decat and uprated fuel pump, otherwise it is standard. Might install an airfilter if they are worthwhile.

Thanks

Ross

I don't see why you couldn't get at least 280bhp with ESL.

600bhp

Dont forget its a old car(21 years old) so If you running anywhere near 250-260bhp and its the original engine, I think you have done well

btw don't bother with a open air filter/induction kit, it will just suck hot air in from your engine bay, panel filter in the standard ait box is more then upto the job for upto 350-400bhp!!

Awesome, not after huge power, just interested to know what to expect. Going to watch a dyno day and speak to the tuner at the end of the month which should be interesting.

I actually need to pick up a standard airbox at some point. Someone has barry'd in a random air box which has a Mitsubishi stamp on it

If the open/cone filter has a cold air feed would this be better than the oem airbox?

you have the same setup as me Im running ESL, only difference is I have a powertec induction kit,
I got 305.4bhp out of mine with original internals.
I was also talking to mapper about taking it up to 340-50bhp,
he said its possible but I would need to sort a few surrounding engine parts he also said its the danger zone for original internals

I'm not after huge power, I have another car for that. What was drivability like after mapping?

Would be very happy with 305hp!

the top mount will need upgrading to see you past 290bhp

and as for drivability the difference in speed is amazing

Ah cool, I will look into this MRT then, don't like the idea of a front mount.

Saw a few Imprezas on my last visit to Jersey in Sept; but where the heck do you manage to explore their potential when your tiny roads are so clogged with poseurs in supercars, and the death penalty for speeding from the rozzers ? !!

There are loads of great roads to be fair and you get very used to how tight they are compared to the UK so hustling along isn't really an issue.

However the 40 limit and the fact I have already lost my license in the past do mean you have to exercise caution

Come and live in Germany , I drive 100 mph faster than that every morning.

Downside it still takes 5 hours to get to the beach "Dunkirk".

Ah yes, but 140 on a motorway isn't fun, guarantee 60 through a green lane feels a lot faster!

This is my first non BMW I have had in a while and I find it really funny just how easily it covers ground fast!

Used to have a 530i very heavy even 6 pots and 231 brake does not make it quick in the lanes. my first 320d had 150 and more recently I had a 184 brake version , better but as you say still not quick in the lanes. Your car has the advantage of light weight its not so wide. Id think if you can get 280 brake down in the tight lanes , even adding 100 bhp more is not going to be appreciably faster. Never been to Jersey myself so im basing it on Bergerac films , Id say its the same as driving in Devon. Certainly never boring but I d say the 40mph limit is useful , when pushing it more when cannot see round the curves would frighten me unless the road was closed for rally. But as you say I suppose you get used to it.

Ever thought of getting an RA ? , the low ratios would suit your roads .

My current BMW in the garage is a fully stripped and caged e30 with a big turbo a 24v lump in it

I only bought the Impreza as it came up cheap from a friend who was leaving the island, turns out they are quite good! Not thought about a replacement as I've only had it a few months but an RA would be lovely
