Default New member vs the short sighted

I have been reading through the forum for a few years now and safe to say it has been a real life line in what to look for when buying your first Impreza – fantastic job folks!

So after taking my time and looking at a LOT of cars 3 weeks ago I took the final step and collected my first Subaru. A 2003 blobeye WRX with 72,000 miles and 1 owner from new, serviced every year of its life and with a Prodrive back box. Perfect!

So I thought it was about time I introduced myself and stuck up a few pictures for you all to see.

But sadly 2 weeks and 2 days after getting the Impreza home disaster struck in the form of a short sighted old biddy who pulled out of a junction I had only just passed. She pulled off outside my peripheral vision and the first thing I knew about it was when she hit the rear door. Luckily it was a 30 limit and she had only moved a few metres but in a handful of seconds she managed to take out two doors, the front wing and the sill cover. Luckily the wheel and suspension was undamaged so it was all just cosmetic, no one was hurt and she was insured so it was about as good as a crash can get. Not that it’s much consolation.

So my pride of joy is now looking a little worse for wear and I am going through the whole kerfuffle of getting the car back to its original glory.

Anyway thanks for reading and hopefully I will be able to stick up some new pictures of the car back to its former glory.

Cheers, Ed

A bit of T cut and some elbow grease will soon sort that out.
It is galling though to have it happen so soon after buying the car.

Shame, looks like it had been well looked after too.

So are you keeping her standard or doing what most WRX owners end up doing, chasing more power?

Yikes mate, that's nasty! I was annoyed when recently a lorry knocked a post onto my car, hitting the bonnet and causing a pretty nasty dent and small paint chip - luckily both were fairly easy to sort out - the dent guy just banged it straight out!

Yours however is a bit worse than that. Such a shame, as I got my WRX in a similar, well looked after stock condition. Good luck with getting it sorted and the future plans for it. Welcome to the club.

Thanks for the comments guys. I now have a quote for the "polish and elbow grease" so fingers crossed I can get it all fixed soon. Picked up a pair of STI sill covers this week as it seemed like a good opportunity to fit them.

As far as future modifications go, I haven't decided yet. I want to get to know the car properly before I make any decisions about chasing more power etc. However I have an old pioneer DEH-P70BT headunit (single din) that came out of a forester lying around the house so I was thinking of fitting that for a start. Anyone know if I'll need to make any changes to the wiring to plug it into an Impreza? I can't imagine it will be that different.

You said she pulled out, out of sight then hit the rear door which you had passed, presumably at 30mph, but there is damage to the front door and wing!?
Also, unless she pulled across the opposite lane (which I'm sure you would have seen!) the damage should be on the passenger side?
Unless you were in the opposite lane and she hit your door 1st?

Am I missing something?

It was a rather bizarre accident. She was in a turning on my right which I had mostly passed before she pulled across one lane and hit my rear door.

But she hit me at such a shallow angle and was so surprised to find something harder than air in her path that after that initial impact she continued to scrape all the way down the right hand side of the car and pass in front of me, hence the damage to two doors and the front wing.

I think there is a chance that if she had braked properly or swerved away after the initial impact the damaged could have been limited to one door.
