Default turbo wastegate crack vf48

morning scooby lovers i have a vf48 turbo which is standard on a 2008 hatchback, i was told it has a crack near the waste gate valve.

my question is what power issues will i have with the crack, lots of people say it will run fine to 400 bhp with the relevant mods, yet other say not to chance it.
is it worth having the turbo overhauled or not

It's pretty normal for VF turbos to get a crack near the waste gate and will not cause any performance issues.

I had the following work done

> Modified Oil Pump
> ACL Race Bearing Kit
> Cambelt
> Genuine Engine Gaskets
> Cosworth 0.78mm Head gaskets
> Cosworth 11mm High Tensile Stud Kit
> Mahle Forged Piston Set
> Mahle Ring Set
> Fluids & Filters
> Bore & Hone
> Air Pump Delete Kit
> Decat Down Pipe
> Exedy Clutch Kit
> Labour
> Running In Map
> Oil & Filter @ 1000 miles
> Carry Out Dyno Run (done)
> Carry Out Compression Test (done)
> Carry Out Leak Down Test (done)
>
Yet it's still only doing 310 bhp........and its been fully remapped

its not i had the running in remap taken off and the remapped to its full potential which was a disappointing 310bhp

is it because the mapper wants to air on the side of safe rather than pushing it up more, or am i missing a mod somewhere.......induction kit and turbo inlet hose

Hi there

VF range is prone to cracking around the wastegate seal, this can be sorted too,but not sure on the cost there

Depends how big crack is it and if its hold the boost etc.But when you can't make more power with rising boost, then I would suggest get this sorted(I think someone here welded this successfully)

Sometimes more boost doesn't make power and sometimes more boost is needed to make more power, there is perfect balance,I would speak with mapper what he thinks,if he thinks this can cause low bhp numbers, then I would go with his advice

Thanks,Jura

The waste gate I presume is a separate part I'm no mechanic, so surely the waste gate part can just be replaced

No it's part of the housing where the crack will be.
