Default Help! New exedy pink clutch whining noise!

Hi does anyone have a exedy pink fitted? Had One to my 2005 wrx wagon, I had it fitted last sept I only done 3k this year I got a van for work. I went back to the garage in June as I found it jumpy and a little whining when off the throttle when engine holding car back . They said it fine as the pink is an aggressive clutch. It the noise you hear when someone is pelting in reverse, Anyone else found this with a pink fitted.
What you think?
Thank you
Ow

sounds more like a gearbox sound than a clutch sound, does it make the same noise in gear and with your foot on or off the pedal?

Only off the pedal. That's what I thought, fluid levels checked in gear box and She goes just as well as she always has. She had her service just before I had the clutch done. But only noticed noise after pink fitted.

I have the same sound but been struggling to describe it, you've hit the nail on the head for my sound too. Be interested to see what it is.

these symptoms are described perfectly by david of API it's the springs chattering in the plate, only happens on mine between 4000rpm and 2000rpm on deceleration in 4th and 5th gear, i am on my 3rd gearbox and all 3 have been the same, my belief is it's the lightweight flywheel affecting the harmonics of the engine under deceleration causing the clutch plate springs to chatter, it sounds like a grinding noise, and the slightest touch on the clutch pedal stop's it, put up or buy a comp clutch at around £350 these have six springs not 4

It's a funny un this one. I did a poll and most recommend a lightweight flywheel but they are regularly linked to problems.

Most people will always recommend something if they have it fitted. Rarely will someone knock an item they have paid good money for even if said item isn't all they'd hoped for.

Me personally, I had a lightweight fly fitted and developed a noise on overrun. The flywheel was then removed and replaced with a standard one. Issues resolved and to be honest I preferred the way the car drove on standard flywheel.
After discussing it with my tuner it was explained that everything is in balance with a standard flywheel. Once you fit a lightweight fly then the balance is disrupted and can cause the issued I had.

This is my thinking only I've only had lightweight flywheels on bikes. (Not road but race)

I can't decide whether to go for an OE or pink box exedy clutch for up to 330bhp as a lot of threads seem to say the pink box clutches have lots of issues with them.

Think this makes my mind up and also keep the standard flywheel.

I had AP organic and Exeddy 6.5kg flywheel on my STI Type R, took a little getting used to, slightly more revs required when pulling off but had no problems with it what so ever, still got it in the garage and shall be fitting it to my blob as and when required.

What tends to happen on here is, someone does a clutch or whatever BC coilovers, Toyo T1r to name just a couple, at a good price, some buyers DIY, some use John down the road and some use a specialist tuner for installation, now all three methods can and will work well for some, but due to sheer volume and other variables there's always going to be a percentage that have problems of some description or another, either due to workmanship or faulty goods or the one that I think is the case in this instance, mis-matched products.

My clutch and flywheel combo was well proven at the time of installation as well as being bread and butter work for the people that did the job. If you go too light on a flywheel or cheap out on either parts or just plain follow the crowd without doing comprehensive research then you can run into problems.

Other points to consider are Expectation over Experience and Perception, in that everyone is different and so are their cars and car history, some will think it's great others will think it's a pile of crap, you only have to look at the monthly STI vs WRX debate that takes place on here to see that.

I was very happy with my combo and would recommend it, but it wasn't cheap at the time somewhere around £7/800 all in, but I only did it the once and I still have it.
