Default Oil Pressure

Just Installed a defi oil pressure gauge and it reads about 7.0 on idle,

Is this correct,as on my Impreza I had would read 2.0 to 3.0 on idle.

Thanks

Where did you fit the oil pressure sensor? Did you use a sandwich plate?

When I first start my hawk up its about 4-5 bar cold start

Then idle is roughly 2 bar

This is on Defi gauges aswell

Should be around 6 bar cold idle and approximately 2 bar hot idle.

Hi Steve,

I fitted the sensor in place of the stock sensor near the alternator.

I have Frayz's old Defo setup.

I have just had an hours drive journey into work and say on the M25 for most of it and when I parked up it sits in-between 6.0 and 7.0

That's where mine is fitted

Did you mean 7 bar as soon as you start the car up

Or once the engine is warm

Also depends on the oil you using aswell I believe

7 BAR on idle, after an hours worth of driving.

I am using shell helix ultra 5w-30 at the moment, until I change it for Millers CFS 5/40 next week.

Could it be my gauge?

I don't think it will be your gauge frayz wouldn't sell broken things to people

I'm using motul 15w 50 I get just over 2 bar on idle driving at 40mph (which I've just done I get just under 3 bar)

Check all your connections are seated properly

Might be the sensor tbh as that is quite high

Is it plugged into the correct port on the control box?

Did you give the sensor a clean before you installed?

Yeah I agree, I think the gauge is OK as Frayz's is a top guy.

I did check all connections, checked the connection on the controller, I cleaned the sensor before I installed it.

This is very odd. I would expect 6/7 bar on cold idle and approx 2 bar on a hot idle. That's what mine used to show.
Does it fluctuate with RPM?

I can categorically say that every single one of my Defis I sold to Harry were functioning perfectly when I removed them.

What do Defi's read to at the top of the scale?

That sounds more like a wiring issue, bad earth maybe.

Looks like its a wiring issue.

How much are new defi sensor cables?

I may have to cut the cable and solder it as I think it has a break where it connects the sensor wire to the wire going to the controller.
