Watch out Impreza's!!!!!

I have just received my latest copy of CAR (crap Mag) and they are showing of the new Golf that is to be launched in the Autumn.
It is a 3.2 litre V6 with 241 BHP (Yes, 241)and a thumping 366lb of torque with a 6 speed box.
When you take in to consideration the weights, all i can say is that we all best look out

366lbft from a NA 3.2L V6 sounds very improbable to me especially when it has only 241 BHP? That would be a very funny looking power/torque plot. I just wonder if they mean 366 Nm. That means it cannot produce peak torque any higher than 3500 RPM, and if it produces it at 3500 RPM then the peak power point would be there also. Some very strange engine, and a large whiff of BS to me.
The 3.2 V6 from the Beetle RSi has 320 Nm at 3000 RPM and 224 BHP at 6200 RPM. So a tweaked version could conceivably have 366 Nm and 241 BHP, but 366lbft is taking the Pi$$.
It would be interesting to see how VW have managed to get 50% more specific torque per litre than BMW got with the straight six 3.0

and for that money they turnd down a trick evo or top of the line scooby, or a second hand skyline or a megabusa if you want speed? i dont think many would fork that much cash for one, you could have a sti, and a megabusa for the track for the same cost

Arrh, another like for like comparision, 3.4ltrs vs 2ltrs
3.2 V6 vs 2L turbo F4 - fair comparison I'd say
I would'nt say it was a fair comparision at say motorway speeds
Puh-leeze
Who is talking about it being a fair comparison ?? Just because the car has a larger engine doesnt take away the fact it may leave the Scoob looking as if it dropped anchor.
I'm sure the "well it had an extra 1.2 litres and 2 more cylinders" argument down the pub will have you saving much face

Got an idea that it will weigh about 1500kg's thou as its as per any golf and too fat and if its based on the 4motion (which is a slooooooooooooooow car for its power) its not going to be that good
Tony
PS isnt the price tag over 35k thou???

Power (torque that is) and straight line performance....maybe. There are so many cars out there that have "more" something than Imprezas however always ending up falling way short when it comes to the crunch. The only car that is truly as good as a scooby is the Evo range Mitsubishis.
I wouldn't get too worried. The guy driving the Golf eating his Worthers originals will not race anyway - his misses will have a right go at him!! Not too mention the grandkid in the back seat.
Cool car, quality but a scooby it won't be.

I can't wait to see the Focus RS when it comes out! Going to be a beauty. I think it looks good too, with the flared wheel arches, OZ 17" and angry front visage. Over 220bhp sounds as if it'll be good fun.

That's as maybe but the point DGRallying is probably trying to make is that (regardless of the price) dont expect to loose this car if you ever go up against it.
Fairness of engine size or retail cost or the type of shoes the driver is wearing will have sod all to do with the equation when you meet on the road.

Speaking of pitting a Scoob against a Ferrari, where IS the Scoobynews CD?
There is a feature on that where there were about 10 of us with our Scoobs (WRXs, UK, type r, P1, 22b etc) against a Ferrari at Bruntingthorpe last Feb.
Both straight line tests (5 of us at a time drag-style) and a handling circuit where SDB took a turn in each car including the 355.
Very very interesting results.........

Here is an article about it from WhatCar, it states that it is going to be around the 25k mark not 35k.
Im seriously considering one of these, yes i would miss the scoobies rawness but im willing to give it up for one of these As for being beaten by a scoob, i dont care...been there done that
Ian
ps. woohoo my link worked

IMHO (of course) that car doesn't look awesome, just bigger wheels and two exhaust pipes.
They must have released it early round where I live becuase I have seen two of them already. One even had a bonnet scoop! (No I am not taking the p1ss, I really have seen two Gp;fs done up like this)

I am reminded of two conversations I had recently.
The first with an ex Porsche owner (a mate) who maintains his new Golf VR6 4-motion is nowhere near as good as his old 911.
The second with an ex Porsche 911 owner (in a car park) who reckoned his new MY01 Wagon was better than his old Porsche.
Each to their own I guess. It'll still be a pretty quick mover.
Personally I think the gap between the old hot hatches and the Subarau is closing... just look at the new Civic. But there is something individualistic about the Scoob that appeals to me.

I think Dave P may have hit the nail on the head - the gap is (literally) closing. Other manufacturers have put a lot of development and effort into (the re-emergance of) the hot hatches in their range. Subaru stuck a new bodyshell on 8 yr old technology !! and released the STi far too late. Don't get me wrong here - I will sing the Imprezas praises all day long, but the previously invincible performance car it has been it doesn't seem to be anymore.
All contenders do appear to be much more expensive though
And yes, I do have an Impreza, yes I think its ace, and no I won't be trading it in

So when will Subaru "squeeze !" the flat 6 into the Impreza & send it round to the STI boys for a bit of a tweek, that should do the trick 2000/4 = 300 bhp so 3000/6 must = 450 bhp.
