Default turbo?

Hi all,

I'm booked in for a rebuild on my 2.5Sti and wondering your thoughts and buying "options" on which turbo to go for. No immediate plans to go FMIC or upgrade clutch and injectors yet but still hoping for around the 400 mark so wanted to buy a used 420* capable turbo to replace my vf43. Idea's/solutions?

Hi Jay, a mate has already asked for "first dibs" on my vf43 but it may be in poor condition and we haven't discussed ££.

I don't have a budget but I do love a bit of value. i.e a used £2k turbo for £900 would be fine, but preferably a used £1.5k turbo for around £600 - maybe wishful thinking??Please PM me with any offers.

I would go for an SC42 for your power aim but you may struggle to find one second hand

Sc46 would work well on a 2.5, may give you a bit more power too !

sc46 will be very limited by top mount, mine was. SC42+ would be a cracker, but sc46+ is more suited for the 2.5.

your realy at the level that you wanna be looking at front mount and stand alone ecu

To get over 400 you will need a remap, injectors, less restrictive aftermarket exhaust, uprated air intake pipe and the all important bigger turbo.

thanks for all your replies,

Tidgy this is a 2.5Sti hawk.

I'm currently running 340/350, I still have tmic, I've got a 340 fuel pump, 3" decat, 3 port and panel filter. I really just want a 420 ish capable turbo as I don't want my vf43 running flat out causing even more heat.
I don't want to push my luck on the 2.5 due to the liners but I was hoping to "break" 400 so slightly bigger turbo needed. I do plan on the other mods soon but not before Monday when she's being rebuilt.

I have been advised sc46 and md321, if anyone knows of either (or any other 400+ turbo used for sale) please let me know.

Thanks again lads

I'll only be selling the vf43 once I've sourced a new turbo mate, and as above, my mate has already asked for first dibs, besides, I have no idea of it's condition.

I'm assuming and hoping its in perfect condition so it's worth as much as possible.I'm having my engine forged on Monday and wanted to get as close to 400 as possible.

I only mentioned it's condition as I've read they're renowned for having cracked housings.

When looking for a turbo for my hawk STi and looking at numerous power graphs on 2.5 and turbo upgardes, I was impressed with the billet SC46 on the 2.5, I would go as far as saying its the perfect turbo suited to the 2.5.

have a look. if have not already at the Scoobyclinic billet thread and look at some of the power graphs, to get a idea on the spool of some of these turbo's

Usually a hairline crack going from the wastegate into the impeller area, wont effect performance, and is usually a common problem on the VF43!!

You thinking of putting a VF43 on your 2 litre WRX jay jay????
