Default A follow up to "What made you enter Subaru ownership?"

So reading down some of the posts on "What made you enter Subaru ownership?" thread there's a fair few that have had more than 1 Subaru, myself included!

So why have those decided to sell/swap/part ex/scrap their first, second, third, and so on Subaru's?

My first classic UK wagon, I swapped for a WRX saloon. Something a little different and a bit quicker. The chap couldn't get insurance on an import and the deal was done I sold the saloon and bought a Satria GTi Something I have wanted for years) but realised that was a big mistake as missed the Impreza's power and sound soooo much
After having a couple of other cars (Audi A4 2.6 & a MK4 RS Turbo convertible) I decided to buy another classic wagon. Nice car with a couple of toys, but had to get something a little cheaper to run so swapped for an E36 BMW 325i convertible. I liked the car in white and was pretty rare to see another white one, but alas the power and sound was missing. So I swapped the BMW for the classic WRX I have now. I am planning on keeping this one as its cost me a lot of money on things that had to be done to keep it on the road But if it don't stop being a bitch, it will go the same way as the others lol

What's your story folks?

I bought a 96 UK Turbo wagon brand new and then a 99 saloon, then my wife got a 2000 saloon.... all brilliant cars, then I got a 2003 STI.... sadly that one was made on a lazy Friday afternoon and was nothing but trouble for 4.5 years before I gave up and got rid.

I replaced it with a Civic Type R and a 2000 UK Turbo Impreza for the weekend fun car. Owned that for 6 years before finally selling it last year. I just wasn't using it any longer and had got into German V8s ... just recently I tried to buy a WRX wagon to use as a daily, but it was not to be as it was too small for my trade show gear.... so I think I am done for now especially as anything Subaru have made since 2007 I have no interest in!

First was a Cat on lease - term ended.
Change of career, bought a series of cheap runarounds (Nova, Sierra, Cavalier etc.).
A nice bit of backpay at work - bought a 95 WRX.
HG went, sold it off (dirt cheap).
Employer and I went our separate ways, tidy leaving package - got the T20.

Since 1999 whenever I've been able to afford a Subaru I've had one (reasons as per other thread).
However, in semi-retirement it's now an indulgence (fortunately not an expensive one, given it's mechanically spot on and I'm not modding it) rather than a necessity and the reasons for having such a superb car as a scooby are disappearing, so counting down the months to when someone else buys the keys.

First Impreza was a 1994 STI, bought in 2011. Had to replace it after someone use it to stop, rather than their brakes.
Replaced it with a 1999 STI. I have no reason to replace this one, unless the same happens again. The missus loves them for the 4 door family saloon appeal. Also, her words, "It's nice to have that power on tap to get out of trouble."

That is something for a lot to return back to and its 1 of the main things I missed about having an Impreza. It is good to know that there is power there if you need it and I always used to love it going through the tolls at Dartford tunnel/bridge as it was a free for all to get in to a lane lol

I had them for 10 years and fancied trying an a Evo, which is a great car.

I'd definately have another Impreza though, plan is to get a mint condition V5/6 Type R at some point as a keeper. They are only going up in price.

Remember reading Performance Car then Evo magazine back in the mid 90s when the Impreza came on the scene and was featured in virtually every edition. Loved looking through the adverts in the back pages at all the companies like Warrender in Bolton offering the JDM STi's. There was just something so special about them. Loved reading every article and manged to get my first 93 WRX in 2000.

The WRC was something special to watch back then as well...

Bought my first Impreza 1995 WRX 12 years ago and owned it for 6 1/2 years. I modded it to 303bhp / 290 ft/lbs with a front mount and Polar Performance chip with a Dawes device to give me a true 1.1 bar. I was happy for a while but then wanted more power and realised I could not do it with that car. The engine and gearbox were original and had done 130,000 miles so even though were still going strong it would have been a big ask to go with much more power. Plus I always had a nagging feeling that I should have bought an RA or an STI instead of a WRX.

Then the V5 STI RA Ltd came up for sale on here. It had a forged 2.1 stroker engine and Brembo conversion done, along with lots of smaller mods and was a good price, so the deal was done. Had it for 5 years now and have had a 6 speed fitted and am just saving up for an Alcatek before going for more power. I have an MDX321T ready to fit with most of the supporting mods all sat in a box. It would have been finished but had 2 x kids in the mean time and am currently buying a bigger house. Once settled then the modding will commence again.

I got my Greenwagon brand new 14 years ago and will never part with it
Got one of the first Wrxd in 2009 and enjoyed it for just over 3 years to it
Went pop devastated as I got that car planning to keep it until early retirement t
In 5 years time so Px as soon as new engine was installed for the Nismo and
Also got a new civic EXGT so Subaru won't be getting anymore money of me
Untill the 2.5 is trouble free and they have the confidence to give a five year
Warranty on their STi products
Still think the classic was the ultimate performance bargain car just a Shame from
2008/9 they added chocolate to their engines

First one Blob WRX I bought new in 2004 a bit by accident, spent a few quid on an exhaust, fuel pump and re-map at TSL, that one went like stink compared to every other car I had owned and I absolutely loved it, I got made an offer I couldn't refuse for a new job so wound my company up and went back to company cars, It sat in the garage for about 6 months as the intention was to have it as a weekend car but just never used it much, a mate came into some money and badgered me to sell it to him so I did.

I was into bikes and had 4 in the garage as well, when my son came along I decided it was time to stop risking my life on track and road bikes so sold them all and bought a V3 STI Type R for sprints, hill climbs and track days, that went pop so I spent a small fortune on it with what turned out to be a Micky Mouse outfit that didn't know their **** from their elbow and just couldn't trust the car after that so broke it for parts to recoup some of the cash, I still have the shell and most of whats required to put it back together bar engine and bonnet, just couldn't bring myself to part with it.

Then got sick of not having a Subaru in my life so got myself another Blob WRX but a Wagon this time with PPP and AP's, should have done that a long time ago as it's the perfect daily, cheap to buy and run doing all the spannering myself and just up-rating things as and when required.

I just love the get up and go when it's required even though it's only PPP it's quick enough to dispatch most things on the road and what I can't dispatch I don't care about because I know they have spent considerably more than I have and they still can't shake me.

Oh had a Forester turbo in there somewhere as well under the guise of it being for the MRS but was just not focussed enough for me so sold up and got her back into Mercs as I quite like those too but obviously for different reasons.

I do think the wagons are very under estimated
As mentioned in my original post I have had 2 of them and although the first was a UK and was down on bhp, it was still pretty rapid for me and the practicality of an estate was just really handy at the time and the power to go with it was pretty amazing. Baring in mind I went from a 98 bhp VTR to a 212 bhp 2000 awd Impreza, I was well happy lol

I really fancy a Classic STI Wagon but just not sure if I want to shell money out and possibly end up with problems, my blob has been so reliable and cost bugger all in 3yrs and 20k miles so i'm kind of in the "if it aint broke don't fix it" also not sure I'd get enough cash for my blob against something like this.

It's the white wagon, his site seems to be playing up for me now.

I was fortunate enough to drive a 22B when I was a teenager, after years of watching the rallying and being a massive Motorsport nut. I'd driven various exotica previously but I could not believe how much grip and power it had on tap. I just had to get one after that!

I bought a Bugeye STI PPP in my early 20s and upgraded it to a Hawk Spec D PPP when I was 24 as I assumed naturally that being a newer car with a bigger engine and leather seats that it would be better. I ran that car for three years but unfortunately was troubled by head gasket issues and never felt the car was as fun or nice to drive as my Bug and replaced it with a Clio RS200.

I decided after a while that I was missing Imprezas too much - especially on B-road blasts) and took out a widetrack blob PPP on a whim... ended up buying it there and then. IMO the best UK newage car in stock form.

I sold that car for a profit after a year and part chopped the Clio against my Cosworth hatch, which remains the best Subaru I've ever owned, even if it's not as well set up for hoonage as many other Imprezas. I'm adjusting it with time to suit my tastes but found myself wanting something for raw thrills, so have bought an S202 (Spec C RA) recently.

I'm in the same boat as you Ditch.

I have spent the best part of £1000 on my wrx saloon: front end respray, refurbished wheels, Good Year F1 Tyres, 4 Pot rebuild and Godspeed discs and pads all round.

So, if I go back to a classic, I'll lose all that cash and most likely have to spend it again on the classic.

But the classics look so good!

I'm tempted especially by the white one on hurst cars, fortunately I don't have any disposable cash because i'm broke due to house renovations but it would also probably cost me another £3k just to change which would be madness even if I did have it.

Classic is 100pcd same as the WRX, take your brakes off and stick some stock ones on with the intention of fitting the uprated ones to your new car. Same with the wheels if you think they'll go well on a classic.

To be honest I have never driven or actually been in any other Subaru than a classic. So my point on the way they may handle etc isn't worth a to55. But all Impreza's can look amazing with the right mods and tbh a big reason why I've had classics is because there in the cheaper tax bracket lol

That white wagon looks nice and clean. My first wagon was white but my second was silver. They both looked very nice in different ways

I was living in Hong Kong at the time 'The Legend of Speed' came out...that sold it for me. Aisian street race is scene is awesome, many good nights where spent driving my Civic down Causeway Bay but always wanted a Scooby or Evo.

I lived with Mk2 Golf GTI's for eight years after in the UK , tuning one to 300bhp, but still pined for an Impreza or an Evo. Eventually after driving a Type R, I realised that no matter how much money I put into the Golf (around 12K at this point) the Impreza was far superior out of the packet, so I bought one and entered JDM world

I got stitched up with my Type R by a specialist, so it always left a bad taste in my mouth, but my Twinscroll blob has been awesome, best car I've ever had.
