Default piston slap...

after having looked at some vids on youtube it would appear that I have `piston slap`

I understand what it is and and why its doing it..

apparently its quite common in petrol engines (especially boxer engines) although tbh ive never heard of it before..!!

so how common is it in impreza engines??
we talking 50%?

What year is the car? Does it stop when the engine is warmed up? 1997 cars are prone to it big time but all cars can get it.

I had it on both my 1998 sti and 1999 UK turbo.
Very common but you shouldn't really get it with the ambient temperature as it is at the moment. Also, it will clear when warm. If it doesn't, it may be your big end bearings.

Get a fully forged build with proper piston to bore clearance to run high boost & you'll know what slap really sounds like. Nothing to worry about as long as as it doesn't get louder & you know for certain it's slap & not another issue.

When I sold my old UK turbo, the buyer took it to tsl motorsport the day after he bought it as he was so worried. They advised him that it needed a rebuild! He sold it within a few weeks. 40,000 miles later and the engine was still going strong.
