Default Stretched Tyres.

Why?
Are they better for handling?
Or vanity or new fad?
Are they legal?

Got 225/40/18 stretched on a 9.5"inch on my hawk sti, I would like to have gone for a wider tyre but it would catch the arches as my car is low,
I dont get no rubbing issue's at all with 225/40/18, so thats why I stuck with that tyre choice to give it that stretched look!!

Handling wise I felt I could push my car better with the 18x8"inch wide wheels, not saying that the car dont handle with the wider wheels but it felt better/more control with the 18x8's.
So yes I would say its more for looks then performance, But then again where can you really open your car up on public roads, most of the time I find myself pottering about at 30mph in traffic, And when I can open it up its usually in a straight line for a few mins at a time, so the wheels dont make a difference!!

As for being legal?? I think ill put the standard wheels on for MOT time!!

I saw my first Impreza on stretched tyres (and massively lowered) the other day. I had to do a double-take because it looked just like a Dubber. Sad. Why ruin the handling of a car famous for just that?

It's practically this^^^^^To fit wide wheels properly you need wide tyres simples, and if you have wide tyres you need body work arch rolling or a body kit which all cost,it's like how people use to lower cars back in the days it weren't lowering springs it was,"Do you know anyone with an angle Grinder bruv".SJ.

Looks completely **** and is generally only done by knobbers, why take a decent 'half decent' handling car from the factory and make it handle ****?

I think it's dumb, but i do appreciate the entertainment value in which it brings. Hey, it'll be a boring world if we were all the same.

I asked this question to a group of dub fans and got a shed load of abuse for it.

I just couldn't understand why bother spending a fortune putting a 5 Cyl motor in a mk2 Golf tuning it up and then making it so low he couldn't go anywhere at sort of pace and then add stretch tyres for that extra crap handling

So long as my back end stops sliding out (left) every time the turbo kicks in I'm not bothered how my tyres look.

Stretched tyres means.look at me,i been to the shops and bought some realy wide rims.but hold on a minute they wont fit my car.so instead of getting the arches sorted so they will fit properly, what i'll do instead is use the tyres that were on my 7inch rims and hope no one notices they dont fit properly.stretched tyres just look ****e imo.

I would say you should invest in some decent tyres if your back end keeps sliding out lol.
