Default Coilovers vs shocks and springs

Has anyone switched from coilovers to shocks and Springs?

I do most of my spirited driving on loose surface and very tight b roads. Currently have hks coilovers and they are too crashy and jumpy. I'm worried I will I miss the tightness and precision of a coilover setup but are aftermarket sSprings and shocks a much better option for fast road driving?

Japanese coilovers are well known for being harsh....quality of their roads is a lot better than ours.
On my Type R i've done the following
Prodrive Bilstein shocks,P1 springs,Whiteline rear ARB (24mm),Whiteline rear drop links and replaced may a bush as the rubber was no longer rubber

The ride and handling is so much better (41 year old with a dodgy back )

I had P1 Springs (some of the last made) and KYB AGX (adjustables) on my V5 STi, they where a revelation after the OE JDM items in terms of comfort and ride.

As said by many, Coilovers are for mirror smooth roads. That being said my mate runs a Bugeye Spec C RA on Teins with the EDFC, soft for normal and hard for enthusiastic, and they are pretty good.

I've recently bought a classic with Tein EDFC kit on it and they're a revelation! No banginess (is that a word?), no crashiness. Just a controlled drive, as above you can go from soft (relatively) to full on track hard. I would go as far as to say this kit outperforms my AST kit on the newage. However the EDFC kit is not cheap.

On my old classic STi I changed the Tein coilovers for a set of STi shocks with eibach springs, hated the coilovers on there at the time to the point the car was dangerous as the coilovers where that hard you would hit a slight bump in the road the car would unsettle and tend to slide all over the place!!

If your doing just fast road driving, I would just go for a set of springs, but if you do have the need for coilovers have a look at something like the Eibach coilovers or KW coilovers as Ive found these a bit better for road use, I currently have Eibach coilovers and they are no harder then a set of shocks with lowering springs!!!

A private sale via one of the many Facebook groups. Best thing is they had never been fitted to a car.

However if you're looking for P1 springs have a look here

Speaking of TEIN they have issues with corrosion of the top mounts and replacements.

What other worthy options are there other than KYB shocks? Are sti shocks with some aftermarket Springs up to the task?
