What's his reason for not selling it?

maybe he thinks it sold at a price too low. i dunno? maybe he thinks because i'm a foreign buyer i'm a scammer? but i'm a genuine buyer, would fly to the uk and pay cash in exchange for the car. in austria there aren't any nice sti for sale, that's why german and austrian enthusiasts try to buy them in the UK

You could try offering to do a bank transfer to prove you
are serious.

Is he just not answering you through ebay or has he cancelled
the sale via ebay and if so what is his reason?

Without seeing the car? If you don't know the seller that is risky.

Surely you can send a deposit if you are prepared to loose it but not the full funds.

Op has technically agreed to buy the car unseen, his choice, but yes
maybe send a deposit would be better.

I must admit buying a scoob unseen is a very risky thing to do but
the op seemingly has no choice.

Called him and he eventually picked up. He had been vary of my messages thinking I was a scammer. However we managed to resolve the issues, and if everything works out like it should I'll be driving my first sti in two weeks time :-)

Btw, I will definitely NOT send anybody money without knowing him or the item underlying the contract of sale. I will pay cash in exchange for the car

Car has fsh, hip clear, serviced by well known specialist 3 weeks ago, cambelt done. Bog standard PPP, no mods. All MOTs present as well. Described as being in very good condition for age, mechanically spot on. So sounds good - and if it is a dog the contract is cancelled because the item is not as described

A lot of sellers on ebay including myself state in the auction descriptions for car parts or cars that no bids from overseas will be accepted. I personally have had bad experiences from overseas bidders as i am sure many people have, and i would also ignore your bid and probably contact the bidder who came in second as long as he was UK based!

This is nothing personal it is just from bad past experiences, i am sure you are a genuine guy, but if you want to buy a car from a UK auction site i would suggest contacting the seller first to show you are seriously interested in the car and not some scammer!

May I ask why? I'm curious, because many UK sellers seem to be overly cautious. I've contacted several sellers over the past weeks. Two (!) did reply, one of them not engaging in further communication. I mean, what does it matter to the seller whether I come from the house next door or overseas, if I pay cash in exchange for the car? Are notes different when held by a UK hand?

From my personal bad experiences and talking with others, it seems to be eastern europeans who win the auction or several then come over with a car transporter lets say two weeks after the auction has ended, when you are already sick as a pig, then they try to haggle you down.

I also worked at a car auction yard for some time, you would not believe how many used and damaged cars are being transported out of the UK.

As above I only sell to UK registered/verified buyers due
to bad experiences.

Op, hope it's as good as stated for you.

Also worth checking it is a genuine sti as the seller recently
bought a new sti front grill badge on the bay, probably nothing
but you never know.(I am no expert on these things)

I agree.Should get peace of mind.He knows the reg & says it has been serviced by a well known Subaru specialist 3 weeks ago.I suggest he gives them a call to verify the details.

It says STI in the HPI check, has the widetrack extensions, 114.3 mm BCD stock enkei wheels etc. I suppose if you were to change a WRX to widetrack, DCCD and bigger hubs, you would not leave it standard enginewise, too.

What's the story with this car, it's on eBay again. I found this thread after searching the number plate.
Seems strange it was sold to an overseas buyer in march now it's up at a dealer for £8500 on eBay.
I was thinking it was a nice looking example of a widetrack but this has put me right off now...
Anyone know before I travel to view it

Good luck mate. I preffer to sell my cars to someone abroad as normally I find them more genuine and less of a messer then the uk. Unless its one of them hi I love your car and want to give you a cheque or paypal for 500 over your asking price and will include shipping fees ect. I sold my last wrx to someone in austria and my s2000 to someone in france. Alot of the uk are messers are unrealistic with prices ect.
Locals are the worse messers for me (south wales) if you know someone is coming from a far they 90% more genuine.
Aslong as its cash I would take anyones money
Cash is king

Looks like the overseas sale has fallen through as the car doesn't seem to still be in the original location. It's no longer in Leeds. It's at a dealer
Cheshire performance cars. South of Manchester.

I was looking at buying this but wondered if the deal had fallen through due to there being something wrong with the car as this thread is only 6 weeks old.

Cheshire Performance or C Performance are muppets and I'd advise anyone buying or viewing there to be very cautious.

Give that one a miss then. Lol

Seemed a bit too nice and a bit too well priced for a widetrack
