Looking good will be a eavy cage tho.
I hope your not looking to fit the factory fuel lines back in as i think you will have problems getting them back in round the cage. I had a nightmare with mine and I have the Q23 safety devices bolt in and still had to take the front section apart.

Looks a very neat instal. Just thought I would mention the lines just incase. I used three 8mm hard pipes to take the lines through the car then teflon pipes either side to custom instal. Good luck with the rest of the build solid base to start with.

What competition are you entering? I think for certain events the gussets are seen to comprimise the design?

Never figured out how.....anyone any light on that?

It will probably be Time Attack although I may do the Club msv trackday trophy first.
Suspension will be coilovers by GAZ , I spoke to them at the autosport show , they were the most enthusiastic and actually listened to what I want (unlike a few others who tried to sell me street kits.)

Leaving power the same to start with its currently ppp 305 bhp .

Lightened fly wheel already in.

Grp or composite where economically possible , looking at doors right now.

Replace glass with plastic.

Dash being flocked soon , just need to decide what im doing with centre stereo area , clocks? switch gear? clocks in pod?

Front mount intercooler and probably reverse scoop.

Front splitter (found one in usa that looks a possible)

Heating system wont be going back in but have seen some electric matrix and fan on demon tweeks.

I think it will be a never ending project with upgrades as things expire or money permits.

I would advise leaving the front window glass as changing it to perspex will bar you from any MSA event.

I'm intending removing some excess metal from the car this weekend.
Obviousbolt stuff like jack bracket and spare wheel bracket will be going.

Has anyone removed the rear parcel shelf ? (it looks like a few kgs) , the roll cage is bracing that area now. Any down sides? If I change the fuel tank it will be an in cabin type so wont need boot firewall?

Also there is a curved sheet inside the boot area (inside wing close to fuel filler area) that look surplus to requirements.

Am hoping to find out about GRP doors before butchering the originals!

Not sure what to cut it out with , air saw or may try to get hold of a plasma cutter.

Any advice or previous experience of this gratefully welcome.

Are you removing the boot floor?
I made a batch of boot floor panels and seat back firewalls from 3mm alloy composite, very light and very strong still have one of each left if you are intersted.

lol good point. I can check the boot floor if you want as I have a 55 plate blobeye road car but pretty sure the firewall would not fit.

Possibly removing most of rear parcel shelf anyway so firewall would be no good.
Any ideas how much weight was saved changing boot floor , how did you fix the new floor.
I'm currently working my way through your type r caged thread.

lol thats not my thread mate think thats Daz's I have a 4 door RA. I rivetted it in there are pics on my thread of the boot floor etc. The boot floor is quite heavy not sure on exact weight saved but it is a huge restriction to airflow through the car so its best removed for that on its own.

As part of the ongoing build I was considering a retrofit electric heater matrix
However after chatting to my mate who races a cosworth escort he has suggested just fitting a heated front screen , I have seen them available for various rally applications.
Is anyone using one?
Any pitfalls?
I have seen them available here...

http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acat...ndscreens.html

Does anyone know any other suppliers?
