Default P1/type r rebuild?

Hi all, sorry if this isn't the correct section for posting this thread, but i thought as all you guys are into projects/rebuilds etc you might be able to help. I am currently looking to buy a type r or a P1, i have heard both of them need a rebuild around 70k, is this true and if so why? what happens to them at that mileage? I hope someone can help me with this? Cheers, Danny.

Its not a fact that all cars blow up at 70k, some at 40 some at 100 some never.
Like any performance car tuned on the edge they have their weaknesses.
Normal failure is bottom end due to various reasons, det, oil starvation etc etc
P1's are limited numbers so the stories of them blowing up are more publicised.
With the market as it is you could pick up a good rebuilt P1 and have many years trouble free motoring at a low cost.

With 70k go for a rebuild with a good mapper doing necessary, get some defi gauges and you will be laughing.
My P1 is on the original bottom end @ 56k I have prepared myself for the worst but it shows no sign of happening, no knock, no cluks, just needs a clutch soon as it is slipping in 4th at full tilt.
Best car I have had and worth every penny.

My type r has 70k on it and its one of the quietest engines ive had. My car is standard though and I change the oile every 1500 miles. I also use super plus and nf octane booster.

I think alot of the horror stories come from people who neglect there cars or people who put 95 ron fuel in.

Full tilt in 4th i hope that's on a track. I found another one not to far away and its on 60k, with full subaru history, its also priced at 12k though. Would you know where the best place is to source parts needed for a rebuild, ie shells, piston rings, main bearing, etc. Subaru direct must be very expensive. Thanks again for the advice. Danny

Yeah i have heard this alot to, i once saw a 900bhp T88 skyline being filled with 95ron, it was a car dealer doing it too.

If you have 12k to spend then get one that's been rebuilt already, with a fuel pump some injectors and a decat you should be seeing some good figures over 300bhp, even better if you can get one with AP brakes.
Some people have opted for newage bottom ends some have gone down the 2.5 route, you can even use the P1 bottom end and get it mapped correct and not worry.
With the climate as it is at the moment you should be able to get a great example under 10k.

That's great thanks, the one at 12k does have AP brakes and is at a subaru specialist garage, all the cars he normally has are minters! I shall check out that web site shortly, I am currently working and meant to be watching my machine . Cheers, Danny
