Gutted... I need an engine rebuild. I really need help
I really need some help!
I have a MY94 WRX which is my pride and joy. I have spent loads of time on the car - colour coding - 17' Prodrive wheels - loads of HKS stuff - spotless inside and out... You get the picture.
I have had it for 4 months it has 56,000 miles on the clock
I have looked after it. Not trashed when cold - use a turbo timer - always use super unleaded and so on. It may have had a hard life in Japan - but no sign of that when I bought it.
Any way the big end shells have gone and therefore probably the crank shaft.
This means an engine rebuild
My local Subaru dealership is going to charge approx
£2,500 inc vat (parts and labour)
Plus I need a new radiator £400.00 inc vat (parts and labour)
- I recon it could be perhaps repaired -
£3,000 grands is going to hurt.
Please can anyone help?
Do you know of anyone who
1. Could do the work for me
2. Knows Scoobys inside out
3. Will do a very good job
4. Will charge me less than a dealer ( I accept that it will be a pricy job)
5. Is honest
6. Is based in the south (Sussex - Surrey - Kent - Essex)
Really will apreciate any advice on contacts you may have
Best wishes
Steve

Flippin eck!!! That kinda moolah would've bought U Craig Hardmans lump....I don't think he's selling it now...but anyway.
I'd take a look around the breakers for a fresh engine, or rebuild the one you've got with *proper* parts (as in non-chocolate-Subaru-spec).

Hi Steve,
Good to meet you on Sunday and the car looked great.
Sorry to hear about your problem, but I have some ideas for you!
I know someone selling a closed deck block (one of the stronger ones) and I know a man who can help.
I'll drop you a mail with the details, or call me if you have a free moment.
Cheers
Andy

Steve,
Give Subaru4U a call. Their number is on the www.SIDC.co.uk link page.
They're based in Theale, south of Reading and a top bunch of guys.
(Len and Steve)
Dunno if they're too far but they'd do a good job at the right money.
Cheers

Don't use Midland Impreza for the rebuild they might be cheap but they don't do a good job.
BTW it might be a good idea to get the turbo checked and cleaned out. Mine blew 70 miles after the rebuild due to metal in the oil turbo seals. I know it seems like an extra expense but its cheaper than a new turbo.

Steve .I was in the same position,I gave mine too much when it hadn't warmed up.It was alright till engine had cooled and no.4 shell cracked through contraction.Started car a bit later and knock sensor was on. Got local subaru specialist round who told me i needed new engine (sti) £1800 plus labour + v.a.t.GUTTED!
Rung Sub City Rotheram who told me straight away what the problem may be and my car was transported to them.
crank done, clutch and full service (inc. timing belt)+ £1000
they valet your car in the service aswell
their mechanic is a prodrive trained mechanic

As you have probably noticed.
I have been a bit of a tw*t.
And posted the same thread twice.
Must be my highly distressed state.
Anyone know how I dump the other identical thread?
As I haven't done it before.
Thanks
