You could spray s lubricant onto them ,not just on the top. but from under the wheel arches. Generally , it will quieten them down enough to isolate the noise and go from there with replacement

I had to change both shocks and top mounts on my Merc. A pain in the bum as there wasnt a way of establishing what was faulty, consequential damage or fine.

Jack the corner of the car up until the wheel is clear of the ground, then try lifting the wheel, there should be no loose movement. If the wheel moves (only slightly) with only slight resistance before stopping, there is excessive play in your topmount.
The chances are though it's the anti-roll bar drop links, it's usually those on Fords.

Anti-roll bars and drop links all fine.....however if I pull on the spring very hard it moves side to side a very small amount. Spoke to garage and am booked in for Tuesday. Any idea what is the most likely cause?

One of my springs snapped earlier this year but it was pretty obvious, clunky as hell and a bit of spring was hanging loose. Could still be that and the bit of spring that's snapped is wedged in or something?

Apparently it is the lower ball joint.
How long should it take to replace these? The garage has had my car all day and say it wont be ready till tomorrow.....I think this is crazy to just replace if all they have to do is replace the ball joints.
