how much for a head gasket change on a ford focus
evenin all
a mate of mine has a 54 reg focus ( i know...he s got no car taste...but he s a farmer)
his head gasket has gone ( or so his local garage say so) they have quoted him around 1200 for a head gasket change and cam belt change, which I think is a bit ott...
I asked him if they have done a sniff test and he doesn t know if they have or not..
basically what price should he be paying ? he s located in Bosbury ( half way from worcester to malvern)
cheers for any info

Assuming its a petrol £620 is a p1ss take too tbh, the only reason they originally quoted you £1200 is so when they dropped the price by half youll think youre getting the deal of the century, Ill do it for £500 all in with new cam belt kit and waterpump, thermostat and oil change, ill even keep the receipts for the parts so you can whack it all in with the history of the car

Are they pressure testing and reconditioning the cylinder head?
As obviously there is a big cost difference to a quick re-skim and new gasket (or no skim at all if its a bodge job) and inspection/test and top-end rebuild.
Thats assuming it is the gasket and not the ignition leads interfering with the head temp sensor which does happen on the Zetec SEs (they also known to pop gaskets too, so don't take my word for it ).
BTW if it is the gasket and its been allowed to overheat, they have a habit of guzzling oil after its fixed.
