Smile Have surprised myself in my new choice of car.

After having had over 3 years of owning (and loving ) my 4.8 X5, I decided that I again wanted a more sporty car for nice days (few and far between in Aberdeen).

I considered most options and eventually bought my first ever Mercedes!!
Had always loved the sound when it was the F1 pace car, and so got myself an SL 55 AMG.
It has a full Mercedes sevice history, more toys than I thought ever came on any car, has only 47K miles and sounds like thunder with 493 bhp of a hand built 5.4 liter V8 exitting through the 4 exhausts. Makes the X5's V8 sound timid.
Very impressed so far but am resigned to a variety of future electronic glitches (as there is so much that can theoretically go wrong.)

Will continue to run the X5 on "normal" days .

These Mercs have depreciated from 100K plus new to circa 20K-30K now.

I know it's a cliche but this thread is useless without pics! Get them up and lets have a look see!

Always fancied one since they first came out, the looks, the sound, THAT engine In your research what was your conclusion about reliability?

It's a Merc John, so it's gonna be cr@p.

I think as long as you can put up with the guaranteed issues, then it's a bargain.

There are a lot of comments on various Mercedes Forums/owner guides, and have to say that the majority highlight the electronic issues I referred to. However some owners have been relatively free of any issues.
The major conclusion is that once my warranty from the dealer expires I should take out a "full" warranty with either AA or Warranty wise (roughly £800 annually) to cover the expected bills.

To put the complexity into perspective, the owner's manual is 376 pages and the "comand" (SatNAV/Audio) is 265 pages.!

I've always had a soft spot for black SL55 AMGs. Look, sound and go crazily. Nice choice.
