Got A Micra
Hi All
Gone down the route of having a run around as all my journeys are small stop/start trips & its killing the scoob with over fuelling from not getting a run, knackering plugs after plugs, sooting up the idle control valve, so enough is enough & want to keep it for best!
So just before crimbo i bought a cracking little 1litre 16v K11 micra. 59k on the clock, 12 mth mot, sunroof & even an airbag all for £350 bargain i thought.
Already saving me a fortune in the micra & with the bad weather we been having over crimbo etc it stops me worrying about the idiots on the road & up the back end of the scoob
so bought 2 new front all weather Federal tyres £60 delivered, oil, oil filter, fuel filter & ngk plugs all for £34 (& £14 was the oil!)
fitted flashing alarm light
new stereo & speakers (only has the 2 in the front doors)
de-badged it
new decent headlights & side light bulbs
cleaned engine bay
vaxed it inside, de-greased it all with Autosmart G101 & re-dressed all the plastics
machine polished the outside with me polishes, sealed & waxed & its actually looking pretty good.
Just taken delivery of some FK springs direct from FK in Germany £53 delivered - how cheap is that!
got new rocker gasket as its coming off to be cleaned & re-sprayed & new s/steel rocker bolts.
just need to decide what colour i should spray the massive 13" steel wheels & chuck the knackered trims
also me & me mates have nick named her Mighty Mouse
seems to make a cracking run around, changed my mind on how i thought about micras (still would not part with the scoob as my main car though )
No rotten arches, cill's etc, really chuffed with me little bargain
oh & a big thanks to Moley @ Keith Michaels for sortin the insurance for both scoob & micra, top lad

I love K10 & K11 Micras
Need to get myself another this year
My neighbour has a supercharged 1.3 K11 that's putting out 150bhp

We had a K11 1.0 Micra Shape from new for 12 years and 70k miles. It was the most reliable car we've ever owned and apart from a set of break pads and change of all sets of tyres 2 times in it's life time everything was as it left the factory. Nothing went wrong and started first time every time and was cheap to run, had **** handling though.

Had one of these a few years back to keep the miles off the impreza. In 3 years it cost me a set of tyres and a fuel pump! They are quite nippy and can catch out a few bigger cars at the lights They had an issue with stalling on idle - it's caused by dry joints on the circuit board on the throttle body - simple case of popping it off and going over the joints with a soldering iron

Cheers for the replies folks, it is a nice little 2nd car for me & like mentioned its keeping the miles off the scoob an keeping it for best. It's dirt cheap to run an costs nothing in parts or to look after. Really happy with my buy, but as also mentioned it is a granny motor an not a street cred car but the car but i can ignore that as i know what is parked in the drivewaiting for a trip out!
As for handling, yeh it's atrocious! Me, wife an our new little man went to Oswestry hospital for a check up & going along the main roads to it, it was windy an it got blew all over the place, hence the reason for buying the springs to try beef it up a bit !

Wifey used to have one of these as her first car.
Both of us loved it. 50mpg everwhere. In fact, when I get my scoob (or next performance car - I haven't decided yet!) I might have to get me one of these again.
If it ever start miss-firing when warm, just pm me.
Nissan will want £500+ to supply a new throttle body, but all you need to do is re-solder the joints on the throttle body circuit board.

Go on tell us how much you are getting to the gallon then ??!!
fit heavily tinted front windows to save face from having to drive the thing during daylight hours ??!!
seriously thou makes sense if you do a lot off local stop / start driving, not sure how long it would take to make it actually recoup the inital cost off having a second car/ additional insurance / mot tax etc but as you say very low running costs which is what matters.

Getting upto 50 mpg, which is at least double of the scoob an it's unleaded not super unleaded. Keeping the scoob for best is the main reason to have it as we have a dog as well, so dirty feet an dog hair all drives me mad in the scoob! So cheap car to nip about in fitted the bill perfectly.

Okay cheers for the info, certainly makes sense. I think the only thing that stops me doing similar apart from the cost off running two cars is the way I see it you pay the same insurance / same road tax etc if you do one mile or 100,000 miles a year, would really grudge spending £600 on insurance / £250 on road tax to drive the car just a couple off thousand miles a year, in saying that 50 MPG sounds like a dream !!
