Saxo VTR 'v' Fiesta Zetec-S ?
#3
My brother-in-law drives a new saxo vts - and loves it. he is gonna change it soon though to the xsara vts, only because he needs a slightly bigger car.
From what i have heard the saxo is a good all rounder although some people have said that the 106 gti is a better bet ????

Have posted a message on that site regarding same question - however, most postings are (obviously) pro VTR with no real reasoning as to why....thought I'd try an unbiased site 4 some feedback!

Having driven both cars I am happy to give you my opinion.
I assume you are talking about the 1.6 16v fiesta when you say zetec.
First thing I noticed was that the VTR had much better throttle response, it also accelerated better from lower revs. I think tbe fiesta revs slightly better after the 5000 mark. As far as the handeling goes, they are both very good but my preference went with the VTR because it just seamed slightly more agile.
Hope this is of interest.

Very difficult choice mate! VTR is a good warm hatch but then so's the Zetec S apparently (haven't driven one). The citroen insurance deal is worth 6 year NCD at the end of your first year if you get through it without a crash - trust me, I know

My wife runs a saxo vtr and loves it to bits! Its cheap to insure great on petrol 40mpg no probs, great fun to drive ,dead chuckable, and cost 8K new which has got to be a bargain, definately recommended, can't comment on the fiesta except to say its a ford so that seals it fate with me i'm afraid.paul clarke awaiting a flaming from all ford lovers

apart from a few relaibilty problems with the saxo's I have I cant really fault them on the fun for Value scale!!
I cant comment on the other as I haven't driven one but if you want any tips or futher comments on the saxo then drop us an e-mail and I'll get back to ya.
Saxo Boy Can you transfer the NCB on to another car? coz I was told that it only applys to the saxo?

Ok SaxoVTS now I'm sh*tting it!!!!!!!!
I spoke to about 3 different people at Citroen insurance and then a supervisor type dude who all confirmed that:
a) The bonus applied to me
b) I could change the car
c) It's protected (£80 extra)
I paid £580 for the protected VTS renewal and a month later got a quote for an MY99 which was £350 extra which should come out at about the £950 a year mark which is reasonable for a 23 year old with only a proper 1 year NCD. Might phone again just to quadrupal check, wouldn't want my scooby plans to be scuppered at the insurance hurdle!

Privilage underwrites does Citroen Insurance. I had a complaint with CI cause they screwed up my renewal so I got to talk to some team leader type guy who knew his stuff. He said I could change the car no problem and retain the benefits. I then phoned a week or so later and spoke to a random quotes person and asked her to do me a quote on the MY99. Without hesitation and a few clicks of her mouse she said it would be £300 on top of what I'd paid (only a month into the policy) which works out at about £900 a year.
Getting close to the point where I'll have to decide if I'm going to make the jump to the scooby or not. It's looking 75:25 in favour of the jump - I'll keep you posted

i've got a blue MY01 Zetec-S and its great. My only fault with it is that it chews front tyres! (Probly me!!!) I test drove a VTR when i was looking to by and it does take off quicker, but the Z-S pulls better at higher revs. However the brakes seemed better in the VTR - no ABS but discs all round.
The Zetec-S handles like it's glued to the floor (given the right tyres - the standard P6000's are sh8te), you can chuck it around any corner with ur foot down. The VTR's steering was too light/fast for my liking.
I found the insurance is 1 group higher for the Fiesta (Group 8).

My mum too, has a zetec S, but unlike club handed chrisP i can change gear without smacking my hand on the seat all the time. They run on the same chasis as the puma, but has slightly wider front and read track than the puma, so have slight more outright grip. Absolute hoot to drive, and ford can now make cars, so it won't fall to bits in your hands like citroens do !
And as far as i am concerned, the VTR is the modern day Nova SR, and will all no what we think of them !
