Tell him, if he ever goes to inspect a 172, to check the paintwork! Look for small brownish rusty specs. I rejected my first 172 due to these rusty specs!
As for the car in general, well, I dont know if it's going to be all that much faster than a VR6, I've never driven one. But I'd dare say it would easily out brake and out handle it!
The spec is superb, CD Head unit, 6 CD Autochanger, climate control, Xeon lights, automatic windscreen wipers and auto headlights come to mind! You just don't get that spec on a similarly priced car.
Of course you could ditch all those mod cons, saving you 80 KG and get the 'Light' Clio Cup 172, coming out in the summer! It'll see 62 in 6.8, and only cost £13000.
If he does go for one and decides to get it from a main dealer tell him to ask for at least a grand off! Thats what I got anyway.
Overall I'm very pleased with the car, I think I've made the right choice. Having said that, the Integra at Crail today was very nice, eh Saxo Boy!

I agree, I usually don't like Integra's (actually white cars in general) but his was very nice, especially the rear lights. As for this Clio cup thing I'd rather just have the toys of the standard one for all the difference it would make. If your not interested in toys buy a VTS for £10,800 and spend two grand tuning her and throw all the carpets, door panels, spare wheels, and seats - except drivers of course - in the bin, then you'd have a quick car!!

I have had a new shape 172 for about 9 months now.
I have been well pleased with it, the engine has alot of grunt and the handling is awesome. Theres lots of grip and it feels a bit like "go-cart" handling, very direct.
I have had a few problems with the clutch and a timing belt not fitted proerly from new, but other than that its ok.
Drop me a mail if you want any more info.
FYI, i will be putting a Pipercross Viper induction kit on it in the next month or so. They reckon on a 10-15bhp increase so i will let you know how i get on !!

Clio 172 ..... Pah!!!!
He would be better off with a Honda Civic Type R. I test drove both back to back and there is no contest IMHO.
My TYPE R is for sale in the Private Section by the way.
GO CHECK IT OUT.
