Slight clonk when pulling away 530D
When pull away with a little bit of right foot, there is a slight clunk from what sounds like the rear nearside area, it only happens when I pull away a bit quick and is more prominent the harder I pull away.
I know this is a long shot but has anyone got any ideas, before I register on a BM forum or see a mechanic?
It has been happening for a while now, and most of the time I forget about it.
Car is a 02 530 Sport diesel.

Sounds to me more like the rear diff mounts possibly. Without haveing the car in front of me to inspect i couldn't be very accurate im affraid mate. If it was the prop coupling it would do it with every harsh gear change you make. Whats the milage cook??? If you are in london i could check it over for you.

I phoned around yesterday £225 for the diff, and £100 to fit, so not the end of the world. Now I will be rid of this clonk, I do believe it is time for some mapping to take place.

The fuel pumps can generate up to 1200 bar within the fuel rail (from factory) However it's not always @1200bar, it is varied depending on the dde (ECU) requirements.
All a remap is doing with a diesel fuel system, is uping the duty factor of the pump- asking for higher pressure for more of the time (also coupled with fuel timing, and boost control).
Yes i agree, that can lead to premature wear. However exactly the same thing could be said of remapping our subarus no? Extra power and increased pressure on non forged internals will wear them out faster than the car staying stock.
The important thing when remaping bmw diesels in my view is, to have a map that offers the best and flattest torque curve possible. Not the best power.
I know it's not a diesel but........ i ran my old e36 328i with a larger intake manifold, throttle, K&N connical air intake (with heat sheild), underdriven pulleys, and a custom remap. For four years. And in those four years it got it's big German bottom smaked by me everyday!
So to summarise, a remap can break things.
But we don't mod our cars for longevitiy, we do it to improve the drive of the car, and the grin on our faces!
