Default Mini Cooper S mpg

Wife currently has a cooper approaching 3yrs old and we are considering a Cooper S.
Anyone own/owned one and if so what mpg do they do around town?
Thanks
Nik.

My son has a 2005 and averages about 26mpg, so would be a little lower on the shorter journeys.

I work at Bmw/Mini is there anything you would like to know?
Most people average around 30-35mpg just down to how you drive them.
Which cooper s the turbo charged or the older supercharged model?

Hi, the R53 (supercharged) best mpg around 28mpg, the new R56 (Turbo) would give mid to late 30's, but you would have to drive at 56 mpg on a run. I had a cooper S R53 before I saw the light, difficult to drive anywhere slowly as the whine of the supercharger is hypnotic. Hope this helps

It will be post 2007 so if i went for one it would be the turbo model.
Was the tlc package and option with the S?
Driving wise the wife has a 30 mile round trip which is a mixture of in town (5miles) and out of town carriageway(10 miles), she currently manages 43mpg in her cooper.

The tlc package is an option for all mini's , at launch it was 100 pounds for 5 years or 50k miles, not sure on the price for the new mini's. having owned several mini's before finding the dark side DONT buy any mini without having TLC, anyone who bought a new mini without it was MAD.....

Yes you can have the tlc package on the cooper s, her mpg will go down i think she will average around 35-37, they have to driving options the normal driving mode where the acceleration isnt as responsive and runs less boost to save fuel economy and the "sport" button which ups the boost and acceleration response for a more spirited drive, she wont be disappointed theyre great cars handling is awesome and suprisingly quick

Thats gone up then! I'm sure it was only £150 quid when we bought the Cooper 3 years ago.
I will probably be buying used this time as i've stopped buying brand new (1-2yr old) so hopefully any used examples will have tlc.

The wifes 54 plate John Cooper Works gets 300+ miles to the tank.
Have to say, I love the sound of the super-charger!

I know someone who had the supercharged model and MPG was always in the 20's which is very poor IMO. AFAIK the 1.6 engine is quite a crude design - I think it's actually a Chrysler engine? That supercharger whine sounds fantastic tho!

Not sure about the newer turbocharged models however.
