Jag X type
Why are they so 'cheap'? Are they that bad? Looking at the prices for a mate in the UK, a 3.0 sport can be had for under 4k?

The parts may well be expensive but there's nothing stopping you taking it to an independant garage to save a few bob.
I was in a village near me this morning and the local taxi firm use one.
Nik.

Jag are going to ditch the X-type, and it was never exactly a winner even when it first came out, so not that surprising that used prices are weak. IMO ditching it's a good move as lots of 'cheap' models just damages the brand image.
Just look at Audi, BMW, Merc - every man and his dog has one now.

they are cheap because they are 8 years old now, just like 8 year old audi's and bm's are cheap, the dealers are expensive just like any other main dealer, try and independant garage and youwill cut your costs by more than half.
Oh and if you remember rightly (a lot of people forget this as they didnt like to hear the fact that a 'cheap' jag could possibly do it) but the x-type on launch was the best car in its class, bmw and audi went running back to the drawing board to revamp their cars.
The 3 litre v6 is the one no-one wants because of the running costs, the 2.2 and 2litre diesels are the ones to go for.
And one last point, they stopped making them before christmas
Thats what gets me about car forums its just full of people who stand in pubs with no mates listening to other peoples stories and not actually knowing anything themselves.

The X-Type didn't do too well becuase it is essentially a Mondeo.
Two things with this - the chassis is brilliant (remember clarkson saying don't get a BMW get a Mondeo?) and the servicing, outside main dealers shouldn't be that bad as the car isn't a nightmare to work on.
Its a lot of car for the money even if it isn't seen as a 'proper' Jag.
