Well if the alarm light stays on then it is immobilised, did you get the KAC (Key Access Code) with the car? this is written on a security card with the radio code, etc
If you get the code then you enter it with the key in the drivers door lock - same as entering a safe code

Thanks guys turns out rovers are prone to this problem and with a bit of surching i found the problem. because the key fobs were missing the last owner set the default on the immobilizer with the eka code but he had died and never wrote down the code so we didnt have it i surched loads of companys to get the code but they wanted 25 pound and upwards but i would have to wait till after christmas then a bloke local said he would come and fix it but it would cost me 40 for just the code or 90 and i would get 2new key fobs, then simb2 called me and said he had found a mg rover site that would give me the code in an hour if i paid 15 and gave them the vin no so i did 20min s later all sorted you put the four digit code into the door lock using the key 5 to the right 6 to the left and so on and im happy to say it worked first time and the misses is on the road again. thanks for your help guys.
