Default 306 Rallye Bye Bye

As a few niggles are happening with my 306 Rallye I am going to ask her to take a back seat whilst I fix her up.

So I am in the game for a new 'reliable' car.

I have 10k to spend and I am thinking

CTR old shape 2005
DC5 2003
MK4 Golf R32

What are your thoughts on these? Any others to throw into the party?

Mine is in Cherry Red and need a bit of TLC to make her perfect. I do need a reliable car to get back and forward to work!

Scott - I had a mk4 R32 for a year - very good car, the unstressed engine is super reliable and it handles well too.

CTR is great but needs thrashing and has no torque.

No idea on the DC5 but they are highly rated.

£10 - 11k would get you a decent miles Focus RS Mk 1.

Much, much better than the CTR (I speak from experience) and has decent running costs.

R32 - see Mattee's post.
DC5 - I've driven one quite a few times and have to say it's 'OK'.
Just not a patch on the DC2 but those are getting old and leggy now.

Certainly if it were my money, it'd be an FRS.

FRS is a good shout - if you find a decent one. It seems that they vary a lot (according to Evo mag not me).

That'll be those rose tinted specs I've owned both (DC2 & DC5) & can say that the DC5 is awesome! Going from a 306 Rallye (I've owned a GTi6 too) you'll be blown away ...

TX.

If it were rose tinted specs then the OP may as well get a 106 GTi.
In my opinion that was even better than the DC5 (and the CTR, for that matter)

I had a similar Saxo VTR (was too young to get insured sensibly in the VTS) and the handling was incredible. Yes they are now chaviots but ones with a very very sorted chassis.

Crikey. That's good value.

Didn't know they only have 300 bhp though. Thought it was a lot more.

Edit - I see the 6.0 have a bit more oomph.

another vote for the dc5 here, ive got a rallye too in white and me and the other half had a dc5 between us. loved that car to bits, handling immense, always felt special and she could get 350 miles from a 50 litre tank without too much vtec. and honda reliability combined with a timing chain makes for peace of mind
