Anyone fopr a "As New" Escort Cosworth
Following on from the Pug 205GTI thread.
Spotted this last week. If I hadn't just bought (Pick up this Saturday coming) a Nissan 370Z, I'd have been going to look at this.
Ford : ESCORT RS COSWORTH 4x4

That is definately a 'keeper', but, like the Pug, as soon as you put any mileage on it you begin the originality and also the re-sale value disappears

Not fast compared with todays cars but a nostalgic car for many.
Guess it also depends on your age

I'm an old git - 34.
Dad had a few uR Quattros from a similar era - great cars but I'd still never want one. Same with Deltas, old E30 M3s, mk1 and 2 GTis, etc. I'd either want properly classic or newish. Just don't like 80s/early 90s plasticky interiors, sky high mileages, cr4p brakes, no security, zero safety, etc.
But it's only an opinion...

Have loved Cosworths from when they first came out.
Old man had a Sierra Cosworth 4x4. Wouldn't buy a Escort, as it was impractical from a work point of view. Parking up the Sierra anywhere was bad enough, but the Escort just shouted "Steal-me". The Sierra almost got knicked once, but they were disturbed by people walking past. Got rid of it not long after. I learnt to drive in it.
I love the Escort Cosworth. If I'd been my age now, when they came out, I'd have bought one straight away.
Yes, buying one today as a "performance car" would be silly, as they are 15 years old, and most modern hot-hatches will be faster. Yes you can mod them (engine and suspension) but for me, I'd keep a standard one just that, standard.
I'd just enjoy driving it around on a weekend, knowing I was driving a modern day classic, which still holds more road presence than most other cars on the road today. Plus a standard low milage Escort Cosworth wil always be worth good money.

the Escort Cosworth just doesn't do anything for me. My cousin has one thou when they first came out and the MOT centre blew his diff to pieces and wouldn't pay out.

The ad for the ESCOS says - "Not one of its receipts is for upgrading the engine and increasing its performance" then underneath it lists a stainless exhaust - does this just mean the car is upgraded but with no receipts

Problem with all cars is that they hate being stored and need to be driven properly regularly.
I can remember thinking years after I sold my RWD sierra cosworth that I should have kept it.
Then I had the garage space and my pristine 35k mile impreza classic, kept it taxed and insured but only had the opportunity to drive it about every other weekend, then missed a few, the battery went flat and it started to smell stale inside.
I decided to cut my losses and sell.
