My sister put in her old micra, and got a Hyundai i10 on the road for £5295 this was with blue metallic paint which added £300 to the base price (also got the car a bit quicker as the base models flew out the door). http://www.hyundai.co.uk/newCars/i10/

Thats a cracking looking car! Do the 14" alloy wheels come as standard or do you have to pay extra? What BHP are these kicking out?

I reckon the scheme is the goverment winding up the classic car fraternity to get them back for having free VED as a lot of Classics are getting binned through this.

Mamoon, the "comfort" model has the alloys and some other bits/bobs, around 76 bhp, brother in law says its very nippy and has loads of head room (he is 6'4'').

Not so. Lad at work was wanting to use the scrappage scheme to buy a new Scirocco. Was going to trade in his Fiesta ST + his old 10 year + Corsa that his sister is using (she's buying another car).

Speaking to the salesman, the Scrapage scheme is done by allotting each manufacturer a set amount of money. Manufacturers like Hyundai etc, that sell low priced cars, are using up their money quickly. manufacturers like VW/Audi etc are using up their alloted money at a much slower rate. Because obviously, their cars cost more to purchase.

So the scrappage scheme will be around for more than next February, just it'll be with more premium brands.

Some of the better sales patter

"Yeah you might have to wait 6 weeks, as the scrapage scheme has been so intense so far we have a big waiting list" (this was before it even went live lol)

A few moments later after she had signed on the dotted line, "ohh well you are one of the first to order!?! so you should get your car quite quick"

feckin salesmen

The used car dealers next door to me are doing 2k scrapage scheme on used cars as they are desperate for business!

My colleague used it last week - we have been teasing him that either
(a) his old car didn't qualify as it had already been scrapped once
or
(b) that it was so scrappy that they gave him double allowance

Why woiuld the VW salesman lie??

The lad was wanting to buy before the scrappage scheme ended. So it was in the salesman's interest to sell him a car now. However he told him not to panick, as VW's Scrappage scheme money allowance, would mean VW will still be offering the scheme well into next year.

Not many people with a 10 year old+ car, are going to have £20k to splash out on a new Golf/Passat etc.

Lots more people can afford £5200 at 0% over 5 years on a new Hyundia though.

Any car salesman on here that can validate either way??

I stand corrected. Just checked the Government website. March 2010 it ends. Doesn't say if that's at the start or the end of the month though. Would assume end.

I work for VW and yes VW are looking into the future when the scheme ends and are easily able to drop quite a lot of ££££ off new cars.

If we had decided before selling our Rover we would have been able to use it for the Rs, Dont think it can normally be used but as i got a cancelled order it could have been. typical.
