Anyone made use of the scrappage scheme?

We are thinking of doing so for the wifes car on php or what ever it is called, will get £3k knocked off a Grande Punto for the knackered bashed up Rover traded in (it owes me nothing as written off and paid out in full) and a £150 a month for a brand new 5 door car :luxhello: Had a test drive and looked extensively at them with the sales bloke and settled on the 1.4 GP 16V. I sat in the back with both kids in their car seats either side of me and I could fit in it ok  White with the 16" alloys and tinted glass looks very nice (well to us anyway). Can't believe how much Fiat have improved as it was actually nice inside as well as outside. Not decided on doing the deal yet although will make a decision by end of next week before the pot of cash runs out.

Anyone else used the scrappage scheme and what did you get/how much knocked off?

My sister put in her old micra, and got a Hyundai i10 on the road for £5295 this was with blue metallic paint which added £300 to the base price (also got the car a bit quicker as the base models flew out the door). http://www.hyundai.co.uk/newCars/i10/

Thats a cracking looking car! Do the 14" alloy wheels come as standard or do you have to pay extra? What BHP are these kicking out?

I reckon the scheme is the goverment winding up the classic car fraternity to get them back for having free VED as a lot of Classics are getting binned through this.

Bravo2zero_sps 04 September 2009 05:53 PM

It seems the scheme is being used heavily, the Punto has a 2-3 month waiting list as all allocations have been sold and can only get direct from the factory now - read made to order to keep costs down. Allegedly the scheme will run out of cash by the end of next month so well short of the finish date of Feb next year.

It was nice being shown round all the new car lock ups they have out the back, the number of Fiat 500 Abarths was incredible and was like being a kid in a sweety shop with so many Abarths and flash cars all sitting there. I'd love one of those wit the tuning pack putting it up to 200bhp :lol1:

Mamoon, the "comfort" model has the alloys and some other bits/bobs, around 76 bhp, brother in law says its very nippy and has loads of head room (he is 6'4'').

Not so. Lad at work was wanting to use the scrappage scheme to buy a new Scirocco. Was going to trade in his Fiesta ST + his old 10 year + Corsa that his sister is using (she's buying another car).

Speaking to the salesman, the Scrapage scheme is done by allotting each manufacturer a set amount of money. Manufacturers like Hyundai etc, that sell low priced cars, are using up their money quickly. manufacturers like VW/Audi etc are using up their alloted money at a much slower rate. Because obviously, their cars cost more to purchase.

So the scrappage scheme will be around for more than next February, just it'll be with more premium brands.

February is when the scheme officially ends as set by the Government.

Take everything the salesmen say with a pinch of salt, we bought a Fiat 500 for the missus before the scheme even went properly live and he told us we better hurry up as fiat were pulling out pmsl

FWIW ours was supposed to take 6 weeks to arrive, and we were one of the first to order, and it took 2-3 months

Some of the better sales patter

"Yeah you might have to wait 6 weeks, as the scrapage scheme has been so intense so far we have a big waiting list" (this was before it even went live lol)

A few moments later after she had signed on the dotted line, "ohh well you are one of the first to order!?! so you should get your car quite quick"

feckin salesmen :lol1:

The used car dealers next door to me are doing 2k scrapage scheme on used cars as they are desperate for business!

My colleague used it last week - we have been teasing him that either
(a) his old car didn't qualify as it had already been scrapped once
or
(b) that it was so scrappy that they gave him double allowance

£300m is when the scrappage scheme ends. Whether Before February, or after.

Bravo2zero_sps 05 September 2009 10:29 AM

Nope that is incorrect. It is which ever comes first, Feb 2010 or the cash gets used up.

Why woiuld the VW salesman lie??

The lad was wanting to buy before the scrappage scheme ended. So it was in the salesman's interest to sell him a car now. However he told him not to panick, as VW's Scrappage scheme money allowance, would mean VW will still be offering the scheme well into next year.

Not many people with a 10 year old+ car, are going to have £20k to splash out on a new Golf/Passat etc.

Lots more people can afford £5200 at 0% over 5 years on a new Hyundia though.

Any car salesman on here that can validate either way??

I stand corrected. Just checked the Government website. March 2010 it ends. Doesn't say if that's at the start or the end of the month though. Would assume end.

dunx 05 September 2009 11:35 AM

i10 or a 2002 STI - no choice is it ?

LOL

dunx

P.S. Based on a trade-in valuation...

I work for VW and yes VW are looking into the future when the scheme ends and are easily able to drop quite a lot of ££££ off new cars.

If we had decided before selling our Rover we would have been able to use it for the Rs, Dont think it can normally be used but as i got a cancelled order it could have been. typical.
