RS6
Waiting for my S4 is driving me nuts, and have recently been looking at RS6s, Avants are coming in at a little over 60k for an 09 model.
I need someone to tell me they are a depreciation money pit and not worth bothering with. I can then come back to this thread occasionally for the next few months!

I always liked the term Heroic Depreciation.
I think it applies to these super saloons - look at what you pay for a 3 or 4 year old S6/RS6!
They make an Insignia VXR look like a solid investment

Bentley Flying Spur?
What about this other VAG super saloon? Only 8000 miles, 4 doors and 195mph for that RS6 price (down from about 120k new)

I seriously contemplated going from my S4 to an RS6, but the running costs were too prohibitive. Something like £2.5K on brakes
Highest car tax bracket. high teens mpg (if you drive like Miss Daisy)
Plus the faulty DRC suspension issue that Audi STILL don't fix, just replace. BUT only if you've got a warranty. Otherwise again, circa £2K to replace until it breaks again.
Look HERE if you don't believe me and type in "DRC"
Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic cars, but when it goes wrong, bankruptcy will beckon. This put me off.
S4 is a MUCH safer bet.

The V10 is impressive, but a massive car. Perhaps if I could have found a good saloon I'd have got one, depreciation will be severe, but when you're getting so much discount off new for the Avants that are around, it might take the edge off it. DRC still isn't fixed though if it is still like the B7 RS4 which it seems to be.

Even with warranty it is a pain though, a friend has got through NINE sets of shocks even though he is a suspension expert and had to show the dealer how to do the replacement properly. This is on the old V8 model though, the new RS4/RS6 have a different central valve which I gather allows shocks to be replaced in pairs rather than fours.

I've had a look at this car - with 2 young children the wife wanted a slightly bigger car than our Modded STI Forrester so my shopping list has been
BMWM5 Estate
RS6 Estate
RS4 Estate
C63 AMG Estate
E63 AMG Estate
Test drove an M5 Estate and it didnt feel that fast - plus the boot space seems very limited
RS6 Estate - havent driven one, dont need to - I've seen them on track (a 700bhp version at least).. they are way too heavy and laggy, and the depreciation looks terrible - wait another year and there will be ones £20k cheaper still. They look horrible
RS4 - a better time to buy as if you wait and shop they can be had at a reasonable price, but they are not that big inside and having driven one of these they dont feel like 414bhp - they are ok once they get going but feel like power is in the upper 300's - must be the weight factor. They look much nicer than the RS6 and you could have more fun on track than the RS6
Mercedes - am going to look at these over the weekend - the main issue is the ageism monica that you are assoicated with old people if you buy them. Still may look at a new one as I may be able to get up to a 30% discount through a Barter company that I cant get on the Beemer and Audi

Hey Fangoria
I do like the look of the C63 but the saloon looks much more youthful. 30%!! sign me up
The RS4 feels like high 300's as many report from RR as high 300's stock. Plenty of sicussion on the RS forums, I have read it is due to the differing ways flywheel BHP has been calculated by Audi vs Tuners.

I'd be a bit miffed it my RS4 (if I had one) was that much down on power - same as earlier M3s. I do remember a mate who has one saying it didn't feel like it was kicking out anything near 414bhp. He MTM'd it.

Meh, why not kick around in the gutter? A mere £30k gets you a S8 cockmeister: 5.2litres of lambo derived v10.
Unless you want to go all Jason Statham and have the W12 6.0 A8. Which although more expensive than a S8 new, can be had for a little as £20K.
Plenty about, as the bankers replace them as soon as the wheels get discoloured by the brake dust.
