No xenon lights, ABS, Air-con or spare wheel (replaced by puncture repair kit). Lowered ride height, slightly wider track and 80kg overall weight reduction. £12,995 on the road.

Okay, so they strip it out, no doubt add extra costs, and you get a .2 of a second performance improvement?

Anyone else thinking what a total waste of time?

I am sure the handling will be adjusted accordingly aswell.

Looks like Renault are copying the Japs, the only thing is you can buy a new Teg for 14K in similar stripped out format.

Found some more info courtesy of Viceroy on cliosport.net (can you tell its been translated from French !):

Basically it looks like the "light" will have extras such at ABS and aircon removed in order to remove weight, and will have different wheels and a unique colour.

Renault listens to those which reproach embourgeoisement small the sporting current ones and launches a radical limited series of CLIO RS phase2! Marketed at the beginning of summer 2002, this special series will satisfy most sporting among us as well as the pilots amateurs in rally in the category Groupe N the prix/performances report/ratio will be particularly competitive...
Here first descriptive elements of the car:

Outside :
The outside presentation wants to be more slap with the eye, with new a bequet back specific and a new front shield with a flexible blade lower which are supposed to improve aerodynamic qualities of the car. It will be available in only one hue " blue world " which is dixit " particularly dynamic " Renault! Lastly, the rims are provided by Speedline (hold, hold... like Williams) with their model " Turini ".

Interior :
Does the interior modifications, in addition to the removal of certain equipment limit to a black specific saddlery " mossa " which must ensure excellent maintains (drawing even more enveloping?) All the recalls in false alluminium (rods which skirts the instrument panel, pommel of gear shift lever, recall on the wheel) as well as the entourage of the meters pass your body in glossed completion.

Connections on the ground :
This special series profits from a development of the connections on the ground entirely centered on obtaining a maximum effectiveness. The hunting of the nose gear is increased in order to make the direction more informative and to as well preserve an optimal stability in straight line as in turn.
Thanks to the offset of the new rims, the front way is widened of 20 mm and the back way of 10 mm.
Is the general plate lowered of 3 mm (??? cm???) thanks to new front and back springs. With a taring reinforced with front, the suspension is strengthened and confers a more reactive behavior for the benefit of the total effectiveness of the car. Is the whole of these modifications supplemented by the adoption of tires to the more rigid structure (which?)
Braking without ABS sees its assistance decreased for a more precise proportioning in sporting control!

Engine :
The moteur/boite unit is taken again without modifications.

Equipment :
In complement of this work on the connections on the ground and aerodynamics, the car was reduced of 80 kg. This reduction is in conformity with the radical spirit of this special series and was obtained in particular by the replacement of the spare wheel by two instant puncture sealants and the removal of certain equipment like air-conditioning, ABS, the airbags side, the lamps with xenon, the vat under momentary seat or the surtapis.
Sound-proofing was also adapted with in particular of the glazings of gate before less thick and the adoption of a tinted windshield, nondamping and nonathermic.

Performances (manufacturer) :
RS2
0-100km/h - 7.2 sec
400m - 15.1 sec
1000m - 27.7 sec

RS2 "Rally"
0-100km/h - 7.0 sec
400m - 14.8 sec
1000m - 27.2 sec
