VW Golf vr6???
Folks,
anyone with any knowledge of these?
Im thinking about getting one and have always liked them (mainly for the noise)
Im gonna have to sell the sti RA to help fund a house deposit and would like a VR6 (around the £1500 mark) to have some fun.
Cheers
Nathan

The only thing I know is there is a plastic pipe behind the engine which perishes and causes coolant loss. A lot of people buy uprated metal ones. Make sure it'd been changed.
Sorry! That's all I know!!

A little haggling might source you a Corrado VR6. The 'C' got a 2.9 over the Golfs 2.8, and was set up with both the engine responsiveness and gearing as a sports car, with class-leading handling for the time. The Golf was always more of a cruiser, with a lazy engine, long gears and comfortable ride.
One word of warning though, don't expect any VW to be reliable. VAG reliability is the biggest myth in the motoring world. When we were running a Corrado side-by-side with an 03 WRX, the WRX was significantly cheaper to keep running. Old VW's are awful, and Corrado's are amongst the worst, but they are a great looking and fun to drive car.

As above, I did like owning VW's and VR6's are really good fun but they do cost a bit to keep in good order.
My best advice for that money would be get a classic, but if you decide to get a VW then as with Subaru's IMO history is everything.
Ask the guys on Edition 38, they seem to be a well of knowledge.

I had a VR6 for nearly 8 years. I bought it in 1997, sold it in 2005 and bought my first scooby.
Overall I found it to be a great car. I had it superchipped straight after buying it, Remus Exhaust, K&N filter and lowered with Janspeed supspension.
It was fairly quick and enjoyable to drive.
I had the car seviced every car, and I had no worries or doubts when taking it to Les Gets one year for a skiing holiday (a 1,440 mile trip for me).
Most of the issues that I encountered with the car were cooling related. Had to fit a new Thermostat. Then another sensor went which caused overheating (this was about a year or so later).
I had to fit a new console for the dash as the Revometer packed up.
Besides these few issues (I did 60,000 miles over the 8 years on top of the 33,000 aready on the car) this car was a fantastic car which I was sad to see go (until I picked up the WRX STI ).
