Default my S60R

Just thought I would up date you all. About two months ago I put up a thread asking about what car I would buy that was reliable, sporty and subtle, well I found what I was after.

I brought a 2003 Volvo S60R in Cosmos blue with Gobi natural leather. She has done 89k, one owner from new, the 18" pegasus alloys with Pirelli PZero Rosso 235/40/18 XL 91Y tyres fitted.

For those that are not clued up on the S60R, it has a 2.5 Turbo 5 cylinder engine producing 300bhp and 400Nm or torque from as little 1950-5250rpm to all 4 wheels. 0-62 in 5.7 and onto 155mph. 4 piston Brembo calipers front and rear - believe you me, it needs these, 6 gears and lots of comfort.

It has got the 4C / skyhook system for the chassis - comfort, sport and advanced.

Even though it is a big heavy car, she does handle rather well and move rather quickly.

I am very happy and proud to be a Volvo driver

nice looking car in the best colour

front tyres might be an issue

quite fancy a diesel S60 or a BM 530D in a couple of years

It cost me £6700 from a Volvo dealer. There are actually quite a few on trader and the used volvo website. take a look. This is a loverly example.. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...leRegLetter=03

forgot to mention, they are £215 for 12 months road tax

Nice one mate, I used to own a s60r in flash green, I would use the word reliable very loosely, mine cost the dealer a fotune to fix all its problems, these problems are wide spread, not just mine, I got mine 6 months old for 23k, 3.5 years later, I traded it in for 5k, such shame they dont hold there value, but buying for below 7k now is a great steal

if you have problems with it, let me, I point you in the right direction

thanks Dave. I have just read your post from a few years go about the S60R.

I have heard lots of items failing on the S60R/V70R like what you mentioned in that thread.

At least I have 12 months warranty with it. Fingers crossed.

They are very understated cars especially the T5 and D5 engined models. Plus the surprise a few people.

I like the interior of that Volvo, especially the little pocket for the owner's pipe and the drawer for his slippers.

Andy, I had on order a loverly fresh v4 Type R which whilst it was on order I was always having second thoughts/worrying me silly to the point of stressing me out. I just don't think I could of lived with the R as a daily driver as I would be scared to leave it anywhere. At least the S60R you can loose in a car park.

Fair enough, but I know which I would have gone with. Not a Volvo fan, sorry.

I like the C30 as well. Great cars even if it is a Focus underneath.

No worries Andy. I just wanted a change from Subaru.

At this price it was stupid not to take up. I love the engine note, even with a stock exhaust on.

Thanks all.

we will fall out if you make statements like that; the focus has had a class leading chassis since 98 when the initial series one cars were released...I should know I'm on my third

It is a lovely car, looked at a T5 S60 about 3 years ago but it was a bit out of my price range at the time, they are very nice cars and very understated, that's what appeals to me about the high power Volvo's

Me to, power is a lovely thing from a 2.5t 5cyl lump.

Nice but Its a huge and a little too understated for me and bordering on old mans car. But I have allot of respect for Volvo's and Saabs. And for circa 6-7K I would much sooner have a Saab 93 Aero Hot, saloon. on a 2003 plate.

The S60 is not my cup of tea, but theres no denying thats allot of car both in comfort, build, and performance for the money.
