Default Main Dealer or Indy (VAG Group)

Had all of my services done at my local Main dealer, but am debating what to do about my cambelt change.

Phoned around all the dealers and Indy's in my area to get quotes.
For Cambelt, Tensioners & Pulleys and Waterpump (Plastic Impellor for comparison):

Main Dealers: £360 or £380 - 2 Yr Warranty
Indys : £285, £299 or £310 - 1 Yr Warranty

Which would you choose?

Do you think the extra warranty is worth the extra cost?

Depends what it covers.
If it only covers the belt (and not resulting damage from failure) it's worthless.

Just had my 78500 mile A2 done at the local garage. I priced up the parts (tensioners, pulleys, belts, water pump, coolant) and considered DIY, ended up £299 inc VAT all in at the local garage who did a good job. Audi dealer were doing a fixed price of £329 inc VAT but weren't doing the water pump which I wanted done.

I work at the dealers and Your dealer should do a price match against the independent, We currently do Cambelt kits most cars at £250, if yr after a pump had another say £30-£40quid, thats all in too. Ask yr dealer if they are doing price match.

I had thought about the price match, but the parts & labour comes with a year's extra warranty so they'll no doubt argue it's not the same thing.

I'll give it a go though!!

Shouldn't make a difference it's a like for like job, part's warranty has nothing to do with it. If you get stuck PM me.

Dealer wouldn't price match, but dropped price by £30.

And offered to collect the car to save me 2 X 1 hour round trips!!

Fairly satisfied with that

I tried going independent for a small repair - it took them 3 days to get the part, they lent me a total wreck of a "courtesy" car (12 year old Honda Accord) and it wasn't that much cheapers anyway. I stick to main dealer servicing now - decentish (well new) courtesy car, they almost always have parts in stock and dealer stamps look better in a service book.
