I test drove one for a second car and was left cold. Not my bag at all, poorly made and poorly executed. Wheels are oversized, suspension is ridiculously hard to the point of the rear view mirror wanting to bounce off the windscreen. It's a tarts car and doesn't deserve an ST badge. IMHO

This is a review I did in August 2007.

https://www.scoobynet.com/other-marq...-st-views.html
I researched these about 2 months ago when I was looking for a smaller second car...might be useful
On looks alone I think they are very cool indeed, but try before you buy because I was left cold.
1. There are loads of these around at the moment as they are a bugger to sell second hand. The insurance is about Grp 13 and the youngsters that want to buy them can't afford the insurance. The salesman admitted to me that they are having trouble shifting them.
2. As there are loads around you can afford to be very picky. You should consider negotiating new, as the price difference is not that much compared to second hand when you consider condition.
3. The leather seats are much more comfortable than the half leather seats.
4. The interior is ok but the difference between the 22k second hand ones I looked at and the 10k ones was quite marked. I am not sure they would suit high mile driving for durability.
5. Performance wise they are disappointing. For a 2ltr mondeo engine it runs out of steam pretty quick. It definitely needs a turbo to deliver the ST brand promise. It quotes 150 bhp but I am not sure where it is hidden ? It does go if you floor it all the time (and I mean floor it!) but then you will never return the 38mpg it claims.
6. The suspension is not sporty it is just harsh. On cornering hard and on uneven ground the cabin rattles alot, especially the rear view mirror. The 17” rims ruin the ride too and are totally unjustified on a car of this size and power.
7. As a second hand buyer I noticed the fiesta bonnet is a magnet for stone chips and all of the front alloys, even on the sub 10k models, were kerbed.
8. Pollen filters came up as a potential area for water intrusion on the fiesta
9. One drainage hole in the huge doors, reports of internal rusting if these get blocked and aren't spotted.
10. I was impressed with the boot size.
Maybe an ok second car but then I think the Zetec S is better suited.
I went with money to buy one and I went home with it still in my pocket.
No offence to FST drivers, just not for me.

I almost bought a fiesta but I thought if I'm going to drive a cheap POS it might as well not be so expensive so I got the Suzuki Ignis Sport
It's not quite as fast at the top end and it's not comfortable (like the Fiesta) but it has recaro's and does the job of putting a smile on anyones face who drives it (not passengers though). Can pick them up for less than 3K now and they never miss a beat (unless you crash and roll them into a field, but the engine still ran ).
I suppose it depends what you want the car for though.

Brilliant handling, amazing fun to drive - easy to chuck about and do exactly what you want with. Not in the same league as the likes of a clio 182 etc in a straight line though. And even though it's the top of the range model, it's still just a fiesta, so not exactly luxurious.
So depends what you want it for really.

I have have a Focus ST-3 and quite enjoy it, it has a good whack of power, reasonable toys and a very good second hand (newly new) price.
Not quite up to Subaru levels of performance, but fun to drive.

I think the Swift looks like it's made of plastic. It just looks cheap to me when you get up close.
My wife has an 05 Fiesta Zetec S, not as fast as an ST but a good small car. Nice seats too.

Whatever you do, do not get the two white stripes on the bodywork. It isnt a dodge viper, it will never be a dodge viper and you will look like a total dwad in it.
Just like folk driving those orange foci, it can take a while to understand why people are pointing a laughing...
Oh and DCI is right with his twopence worth too

I have a 1.4TDCi Fiesta to run to work in and it's a hoot to drive and the handling is spot on with 15" wheels and 195/55X15 tyres.
The lack of power means you have fun keeping the speed up through the bends.
My mum has a 1.6 Ghia with the same tyre/rim combo and the handling/ride balance is excellent as well.
The ST has the power but the handling and poise are ruined by the harsh suspension and 17" rims.
The Fiesta is an excellent car as an ecobox fun to drive car but doesn't make as much sense as a hot hatch.
The new one is a major step up in build and ride though.
Cheers

Good for you I accept that you might disagree but talking rubbish, err no, talking my opinion...
I test drove one for a second car and was left cold.TRUE, you have to spank the **** off it to get going, 2.0ltr Not my bag at all, poorly made and poorly executed.IMHO TRUE, the plastics are nasty and the seats are rubbish, the doors sag after 20k usage, I have never seen so many stone chips attracted by a bonnet design Wheels are oversized, .IMHO TRUE, only adding to the already appalling road noise and road vibrations suspension is ridiculously hard to the point of the rear view mirror wanting to bounce off the windscreen..TRUE, Rattled over anything but the smoothest of roads It's a tarts car and doesn't deserve an ST badge..IMHO TRUE
If you like it great, I thought it was poor IMHO.

Only thing I would add is the interior was transformed in the 2006 facelift. Gone are the shiny cheap plastics of the old model and in came a soft touch upper dash and centre console which accepts the later audio models from the rest of the Ford range.
