Cool would you buy a C36 AMG with no Service history...?

there is one for sale, and i am so tempted to buy it...!but as the title says really....

reason i ask is, P reg, 76k on the clock, and wear on the drivers side bolster...significant enough to see the fading..(Black leather)yet the steering wheel, pedals, and carpent under the accelerator all seem consistent with the mileage, alas the MOT records also stop at the last 2 years..

other than that, its mechanically sound...a little bit marked, but considering the age of her....VGC...

what would you do?

Friend of mine is a bit of an expert on these owning one himself too. If you want to ask him nip over and join the forum linked to :: northloop.co.uk :: we're not playing games :: nurburgring galleries and more :: and pm Uncle Benz. He is a garage owner and very much associated with the merc forums. He will help where possible

Maybe the bolster wear indicates a lardy driver or a load of short trips...?

Get an HPI check to INCLUDE the previous MOTs. They will list the mileage even if the seller has strangely lost everything.

In fact I think you can do the MOT check alone on some sites.

We did this after my friend bought his 90k BMW. The last MOT in the system that was 'lost' in paper copy had 135k miles listed.....

Please do this before you buy! Fortunetly they got their money back.

try this MOT Information - Introduction

else a normal HPI with MOT / mileage check.

Merc interiors are carved out of granite and rarely show the age/mileage of the car, even the pedal rubbers. The Leather maybe a better indication of the miles/age.

I do know of a chap running a 51 plate cl430 with the speedo disconnected to keep the miles 'low' so it is quite possible to fool the speedo - apparently.

Whilst the hide and cover their miles well a lack of history on what is a performance car is a real no-no for me and i would walk away, there will be others out there with history.

It's quite easy to alter the milage on a Merc with the right software a lead and a PC, check it as thoroughly as you can before you commit to buy.

50/50

could be a dog but could be a gem............

personally it would put me off, but get a vehicle check done first and go from there

Vehicle check, specialist inspection and make sure it's price reflects the lack of SH and go for it if it all adds up.

Plenty on here buy Japanese imports with little or no history and don't seem to flinch. Personally, my GTR has no service history and that's probably as expensive to fix as the Merc would be, but I went in with my eyes open.

Personaly, I wouldn't touch a car without a service history.

If the car is genuine then why hasn't the owner ordered a new Service book and had it stamped. Records are kept and can be done by a dealer.

I'd walk away. Credit crunch means lots of sporty AMG, RS, M cars will be up for sale for low money. Service history and everything.

Wait to find the right car. Rushing in now could be costly.

That's my thought anyway

Cool

thanks guys...i called the owner yesterday, he brought it with no SH, but got the HPI with MOT/Mileage check and it all checked out ok, but..if the mileage was altered prior to 2005, then its not going to show.as thats when the DVLA/MOT computer system got going....it going for £3200,

i am going to make a call to the local McMerc garage in the morning, and see if they can come up with any records...

as you said, many a JAP import come over with no service history to back up the mileage, or services, yet we never flinch an eyelid, take mine, no history from Japland, yet all the bits from this country, still brought it...

i think i may just go for it...at the end of the day, it could have FSH and go pop...!

other than that, she is perfect, small chips..but other than the bolster wear, nithing to suggest that it has done any more than its indicated mileage...

i shall keep you posted...

PS i am going to arrange for RAC man to go up...and give it the once over as well...

hpi should show mileage discrepancy, but as mentioned earlier, if you ring Merc and give them the reg, they will have their history for the car recorded.

munna - Cars now? There's always another, and another and another.... have no fear.

And there is never a 'bargain' - only one thats lost a bit more money than another, before it looses you money anyway....

I have no intention of spending anything on a change of car at the moment. But if I did it would be mint, immaculate and have plenty of history and I'd spend ages looking. Ok - agree that an FSH car can go pop but you reduce the chances on the gamble and that's enough for me.
